Normally on the weekends my parents would send me and my brother to either my cousins house or my grandpa's house. I was big on my grandpa and my step grandmother couldn't stand it nor me. One weekend we were at my grandpa's house and my step grandmother Bessie made chicken. As me and my brother were eating I noticed the chicken wasn't done. I walked in the kitchen and showed her she looked me in my face and said "If you don't eat that chicken I'm gonna whoop your butt"! I had no choice being in the 5th grade I didn't realize that eating bloody chicken was bad. As months went on my health started to deteriorate. I could barely walk or stand up. My mom took me to the hospital several times and they couldn't find anything until the last visit. I remember crawling to my parents room on my arms and knees crying in pain my mom said Toni I'm gonna take you to your grandpa's for the night we can't go to the hospital tonight. When we arrived my grandpa was outside waiting on me nervously. He helped me in the house and in the bed and I fell asleep. I woke up to rain and had to use the bathroom I couldn't walk at all I knew something was wrong. I fell out of bed and crawled to my grandpas room well attempted to. Right in the middle of the hallway was my step grandmother with a broom. She looked at me and said get up now! I told her crying I couldn't she beat with the end of the broomstick until my grandpa came busting in and saved me. My grandpa called my parents and I was rushed to the hospital yet again. I was so dehydrated I could barely talk, but I seen a familiar face and she happened to be one of my friends mom Mrs. Pegues she saved me from my pain! I was rushed to Dallas children's hospital that moment. In 5th grade I was more of a chunkier kid. I weighed 150 when I got sick I went down to 98 pounds. Upon arrival they immediately started testing needless to say they couldn't find anything either, but they knew something was wrong I couldn't hold down anything as well as I was dying literally dying. I stayed hospitalized for three months. I was estimated to pass away by January 2, 2003. A week before my presumed death date I was going in for a procedure to put a long thick tube in my arm all the way to my heart because it was starting to fail. The doctor came in right as the tube was fixing to be inserted and asked have you ate any raw food. My mom looked at him and me as I shook my head yes. I then told the story of what happened. My parents were furious no charges were pressed nothing. My mom taught me how to walk again as well as talk I will forever be grateful for that moment I seen how happy she was to see me walk to her as if I was an infant learning to walk for the first time. Life started to feel normal again.
