Hell on earth

She wiped her blade on the side of her loosely fit cargo pants, leaving a crimson stain.
She heard them coming, she had to move quick but the pain in her side made her body sting with every movement.
She looked back at the walking corpses, zombies.
They were nothing like how they were illustrated in comics and video games she entertaining herself with as a child, instead of rotting flesh and torn limbs, most were just pale figures with bloodshot eyes that acted like mindless - well zombies.

Koa found herself running through the dimly lit sidewalk around the corner from the house her and her family were taking shelter.
She panicked, every house she ran by she could hear some type of commotion.
She had left her family, her shelter, and everything else she had been stuck with for over a month now when she awoke to her family turned, and her parents no where to be found.

Her family came from a long line of hunters so there was a safe in every room, stocked with ammunition but no guns, just crossbows and knives that Koa took one of the crossbows and as many knives she could fit in the oversized cargo pants she had on, clipping a line of arrows for her bow on the bottom of her white tank top.

She was running from the crowd of undead that was her family, her younger little cousin snarled and snapped his jaw down at her with his body half eaten.
It was disgusting but luckily it sent Koa into a good enough panic to get everything she needed in a small duffle bag, including food, water, and a shit ton of protein bars while kicking and shoving the mindless monsters that were her loved ones off her.

Koa ran far, farther than she knew she could with the stinging pain of her body cramping on her but the adrenaline she felt was much more powerful.
The lockdown began a month ago in September 2022, the news spread word of a new "sickness" but soon more information was leaked and as the videos were posted of humans becoming these vicious creatures the apocalypse had started, the economy stopped as most workers died, and everyone who dies turned.

Hospitals and nursing homes all were infested with these creatures, and the military soon lost more than they could ever regain, and soon all that was left was basic humanity.
Before the apocalypse was in full kick, a horrible hurricane hit right where Koa lived, it wiped out all cell service in miles and phones were as useless as rocks now.

Koa and her family went to her grandfather's, he was most prepared for anything because he had been in the war but not even previous war experience could make anyone prepared for the new hell on earth and before she knew it she left her room that night and ended up having to leave her life instead.

Her long shiny blonde hair ran behind her and before she knew it, she had ran all the way to the highway, where she found some cars burning on the side and others speeding ridiculously, like a insane bumper cart game.
The people who had lost everyone didn't really have much to live for anymore, and the police being too busy trying to keep their own families alive were no where to be seen, the world has become complete chaos and Koa knew that this would soon end as everyone died, and then the ones that lived would suffer their grief.
