Lord Richard William Carey's first love was a young aristocratic woman name Lady Henrietta Rose Clifford and she was the daughter of Lord Thomas Clifford, Baron Clifford and his wife, Lady Philippa Stafford and she had a brother, Lord Robert Clifford, who was born in 2250 the same year that Lord Richard William Carey was born, but Lady Henrietta Rose was born in 2253 and she was very beautiful but she wasn't popular at the Finishing School that she attended.
Lady Henrietta Rose didn't have the same fair complexion, and blonde hair that many of her class-mates had and she had dark brunette hair, golden skin and blue eyes.
When Lady Henrietta Rose attended the many dances that were given at her finishing school so she could show off her social skills in dancing.
Lady Henrietta Rose at the age of 16 sat at one of the dances by herself in the background and the other young women called her a "wall-flower."
In June of 2268, Lord Richard William Carey was 18 years old and he was invited to the dance by some class-mates from his parochial school and he notices her sitting all by herself at the table and he decided to go introduce himself to her and he walks over to where she is sitting and he bows and he tells her " I am Lord Richard William Carey, My Lady."
Lady Henrietta Rose looks up and responds " I am Lady Henrietta Rose Clifford."
"Oh! I see you are Baron Clifford's daughter and I know your brother." Lord Richard William states.
"Lord Robert is my older brother. " Lady Henrietta Rose tells him " I don't see him tonight."
"I am here with my two cousins, Lord Frederick William III and Lord Thomas William Howard." Lord Richard William explains.
"Oh! You are related to the Duke of Norfolk." Lady Henrietta Rose asks.
"I am Lord Charles Andrew Howard JR, first cousin twice removed and my grandfather and his father were first cousins." Lord Richard William explains.
"Lord Thomas William and I share the same great-great-grandfather, Lord Frederick William Howard, and Lord Frederick William Howard III is his grandson." Lord Richard William explains.
"I don't see Lord Andrew Charles Howard here tonight?" Lady Henrietta Rose tells him.
"Oh! Who knows where Lord Andrew Charles is tonight?" He is wandering around somewhere." Lord Richard William states.
"I have come to ask you if you would like to dance with me." Lord Richard William asks.
Lady Henrietta Rose and Lord Richard William Carey dance every dance together and they are attracted to each other and they start to court each other privately and when Lord Richard William Carey tells Lady Henrietta Rose his intentions are honorable.
Lady Henrietta explains that she is only 16 years old and she has to wait two years before her father would even consider her marrying and Lord Richard William promises to wait for her to come to age.
June of 2270, prior to him become Duke of Bedford Territory, Lord Richard William rides out to Barony where Baron Clifford resides with his son, Lord Robert and Lady Henrietta Rose and he asks for an audience to see Lord Clifford and his daughter, Lady Henrietta Rose and he gets down on one knee and he proposed to her but when Lord Clifford finds out that Lord Richard William Carey is the great-great-grandson of Lord Frederick William Howard and he looks at his daughter and he tells her " I love you, Lady Henrietta Rose. I won't stand in your way if you want to marry Lord Richard William Carey, but I would rather you not marry into the Howard family."
Lord Clifford won't explain the reason why he doesn't want Lady Henrietta Rose to marry into The Howard, but it must extend as far back as 2190 when Lord Frederick William Howard became Duke of Norfolk to his grandfather, Lord Walter Clifford and Lord Clifford's father told his son and he carried the hatred in his heart..
Lady Henrietta Rose is torn between her love for her family and her love for Lord Richard William Carey but in the end she declines his offer and she is married to Lord George Grey, Earl of Kent.
Lord Richard William Carey is heartbroken and he tells his cousin, Lord Charles Andrew Howard JR and Lord Charles Andrew JR explains, " She is only the daughter of a baron. You will find a daughter of a Duke, Marquess, or Earl."
"The Clifford's have been mad at The Howard's since Lord Frederick William Howard, but he wouldn't give in to Lord Clifford." Lord Charles Andrew JR explains.
"I don't know the details of their vendetta but it goes as far back as 2190, the year your great-grandmother was born, no doubt Lord Clifford wanted his son to marry your great-grandmother. My father would murdered him with own damn hands so would have your granduncles, Lord Frederick William II and Lord Andrew Charles." Lord Charles Andrew JR states.
"I know that Lord Clifford thought that your great-grandaunt, Lady Philadelphia would have made a worthy bride to his son, but knowing your great-great-grandfather, Lord Phillip. He would murdered the man too." Lord Charles Andrew JR states.
"There are young women out there who are worthy of having the title of Duchess of Bedford Territory." Lord Charles Andrew JR tells Lord Richard William.
"I know the heartbreak you are suffering as I have gone through it myself with Lady Charlotte Augusta Beck." Lord Charles Andrew JR explains.
Lord Richard William Carey doesn't pry into his cousin's personal life and he bows and walks away.
