Fucking Fetch

It was the most enjoyable time I had ever spent with people around me, which, I suppose, is quite sad. I never really learned the names of any of the guys, except for Chris, who used to go by Christine. Some of the other guys were having trouble adapting to this change.

At first, I didn't realize it, but it felt like a sort of picnic. Some people had brought snacks and they passed them around. The soothing sound of the water added to the relaxed atmosphere. The guys took turns playing with the emo kid. Initially, they were just gut punching and kicking him. However, as time passed, one of them found a dead fish, a big one measuring about 30cm long, and decided to slap him with it. The blows were quite heavy, and the fish fell apart with each smack. Eventually, they let him sit in the mud.

As the afternoon progressed, the mood became brighter, and even the sun made an appearance for a while. I learned more about them, how they were fanboys of unexpected things like trains and some interesting bands. Of course, my attention never wavered from Alex, who, in any normal world, would have a lot in common with them.

At some point, Alex did something to anger Chris, who, for some reason, had ended up with Alex's phone. Chris dangled it above his eyes and then, without any warning, threw it right into some rocks in the middle of the river. The phone bounced off the rocks and plunged into the water. Chris simply yelled, "fetch!" while doing so and ran quite desperately into the freezing water, trying to retrieve it.

After a few agonizing seconds, to everyone's surprise, he managed to find it. The stream wasn't too deep, and the water was quite clear. Alex got out of the water, dripping wet, his face concealed by a mop of black hair.

However, the guys didn't appreciate Alex's success and started gut punching him, taking the phone away and intentionally throwing it towards the rocks. The phone bounced unceremoniously, and Alex went running back into the freezing water to retrieve it.

By the third attempt, the phone had to be broken. Yet, Alex continued to go back in, and with each impact, pieces of it flew out. But he persisted, spending minutes at a time submerged in the freezing water to retrieve it.

After that incident, he never posted on social media again.
