Chapter 29
Tyler
"Who told the press we were coming in this morning?" Growling at Matt on the other end of the call, I'm furious about this situation.
There's no reason, no excuse for us to be harassed by the press this way. Yes, it's Blake's plane but he's still in San Francisco. He didn't fly in with us. He has a team meeting to go to. After the whole situation with Frankie getting attacked, it seems the press have taken an interest in her and our relationship.
An interest I'm not entirely comfortable with.
Because of that level of distrust with the press and my uncertainty about who is talking to them, I'm afraid I've overreacted and have gotten a little heavy handed with Frankie. She's not happy with me.
To try and sort out this mess, as soon as we got in the car, I got on the phone with Matt. He's the best at dealing with this stuff and he's had to deal with a lot worse than what I just did. I know he'll have a way to fix this.
"I don't know, Ty. Look, I saw Frankie's statement and your reaction. She handled it. You not so much." Cringing at his statement I avoid looking at the furious woman next to me. "You're lucky she's got a spine. She's going to be an asset for you. My suggestion, let her deal with the press. She can handle them." Matt doesn't understand. I don't want Frankie handling the press. Neither of us should have to.
We aren't the big stars in the family. We aren't even Bradford's. We have regular jobs, we're regular people who just happen to be friends with billionaires. We don't give these people a reason to focus on us. There's no damn reason for the press to circle the wagons on us this way.
"Look Tyler, we'll figure out where the leak is and fix it." Chelsea interrupts Matt knowing I'm not satisfied with his answer. "In the meantime, go to the hospital, see the baby and relax. We will work on this from our end. I'm sorry, Ty. You shouldn't have to deal with this."
She's much better at this than Matt is sometimes. Chelsea's got a good calming effect on people. Matt is straight to the point, which works well with most of his clients. I'm not a client. Matt is a great manager, he deals with Blake and Derrick and other players like a professional. But those of us who don't like the mic getting shoved in our faces, don't handle the shock well. And he gets a little pissy about it.
"Tyler!" Matt calls out, stopping me from disconnecting the call. "Trust Frankie. She has a good gut instinct and she will protect you. I doubt she'll let any of those vultures get the upper hand on her."
And the damn thing is, he's right.
Frankie's gut instinct told her to make the statement and settle the crowd. She knew how to shut everyone up - and seeing her whistle that way was hot! She stood her ground and didn't waver. I should feel good about how well she handled it.
I do feel better, knowing she can handle them. I just don't want her to.
"I don't understand why you're so mad at me." Her soft grumble of discontent was heard by all of us. "I did what I needed to do. I handled it just fine, just as Matt said and you're treating me like a child who started a fight with the school bully!"
Frankie sat all the way on the far side of the car. Out of my reach, and definitely making a clear statement to me. She's pissed and if I touch her, I'll lose something very dear to me. Glancing over, I see she hasn't changed her position. Her arms are crossed over her chest and those hazel eyes snap to mine,
with a fire in them.Rubbing the headache that is beginning to pulse at the base of my head, I let out a defeated sigh. I have to explain myself to her. I'm not sure I've got the right words to settle this.
