Chapter 28

Frankie

We were lucky Blake wasn't going out of town this week. Tyler was able to borrow the plane and we were off as soon as we got to the airport. Normally, I would have been pacing the airport trying to get on a standby flight.

My luck has certainly changed.

Knowing me, I would have been on my phone with Mitch, begging him to buy me a ticket home or pleading at the airline desk to help me kick someone off a flight. Just so I could get their seat. But I don't have to do that anymore.

I've got friends in high places now. It doesn't matter, I'm still impatient.

"Can't we fly faster?" I eagerly asked, wanting to get to the hospital as quickly as possible.

We dropped everything we were doing at the clinic and left as soon as I got the call from Mitch. Even Tyler was excited about the news. Another first for me. A guy who's happy and excited about something that makes me happy. Wow.

Emerly has had the baby. Early, but Mitch said they were doing fine. She's tired and from what he said the labor was a bit chaotic but he's here. A boy. She's got to be so happy and tired, but so glad he's finally here. I wonder what happened?

I know everyone else is there and excited for her. Well, most of us are excited. I can't speak for Jeremy. I don't think I know any of us who can. Who knows what makes him happy, much less like what makes him tick. That is a mind I do not want to get into. And I don't care what he thinks. Today isn't about him. It's about Emerly and Ryder.

Ryder Cole Rushmore.

That's a nice name. Strong, masculine. I know his middle name is for our Cole. He's helped Em through everything, from the moment he found out she was pregnant. I have a sneaky suspicion that he has a crush on Emerly. But I don't think she sees it yet. I don't get the baby's first name though. I wonder where she got Ryder from?

"We're going as fast as we can, Babe. She just had a C-section, I don't think Em or the baby are going anywhere soon. Relax, we'll get there when we get there." Tyler stretches his arms out along the back of the leather sofa and strokes his fingers along the back of my neck, teasing me again. His long legs are stretched out in front of him and crossed at his ankles. Nothing worries him. Nothing fazes him.

He's Mr. Chill.

That's my guy. Every time I think about that, I get a giddy thrill with how much my life has changed. Months ago, I was just a bartender. I didn't know what I wanted or how to get there. Thanks to Trent, this lucky offer was dropped into my lap.

I'm so glad I didn't say no.

Tyler turns his head and looks over at the baby gift he had to load onto the plane. The rocking jitterbug, a plastic bug car in bright red, with a baby seat in the middle and toys all the way around it. It's a bouncer, but it's better than that. He'll be so entertained, he can spin his seat in a circle and play with a different toy as soon as he gets bored with the one he had.

We put it together so Emerly doesn't have to. I almost think Tyler and Blake had more fun putting it together than I did picking it out. I'm glad Tyler was with me. The box was huge. I didn't think about how we were going to get it to the hospital or Emerly's house. I probably should have figured that out first.

"We should stop by Emerly's place then the hospital." Turning my head, I see Tyler watching me. His hand slowly reaches out and touches me, just barely stroking up my arm and down again. Chills shivered over my body. "We should drop off the gift at the house, then go to the hospital, shouldn't we? Or should we take it with us? I don't think the hospital will let us bring it in. Do you?"
