Chapter 30
Girl talk
Frankie
"It's what?" Cole storms across the room as Emerly holds the card out for him. Reading the card, Cole's anger with Jeremy grew. I'm not sure if Emerly sharing that card was a good idea. "Son of a bitch!"
"It doesn't matter, Cole. I don't want any of it." But I could tell by the look on her face before she knew it was from Jeremy she did want it. She's brushing off the gift to not hurt Cole's feelings.
"You know, I'm starving! Frankie you said you were hungry on the way over. Maybe we can head over to the restaurant and get something with Trent and the others." Tyler is really good at knowing the time to disappear.
He's right, but it should be him and Cole that gets the food. I think Emerly needs some girl time.
"Why don't you and Cole head over?" The suggestion gets Cole's attention and he shakes his head like he doesn't want to leave Em alone. Too bad. She needs her girlfriends right now. "You said you wanted to toast with the guys over the baby, here's your chance. Grab a beer, pass out cigars like a new daddy does and take the moment."
Cole looks at me for a long moment mulling it over. I know what button pushed him to agree. The idea of being a new dad. He wants that. I think what's stopping him is Emerly.
"Yeah! We can do that. I'll call Cade and have him meet us. He'd love to get some male bonding time. Hell, he'll get the cigars for us. Come on, we need to celebrate and the girls can paint their toes or whatever girls do together." Tyler grins at me, giving me a wink.
I haven't completely forgiven him for this morning but he's doing me a big favor. I can't not give him points for reading the moment. He's good at that. And maybe I'm being a little hard on him.
It was a big shock to be bombarded by the press. He doesn't usually get that kind of attention. And Tyler has been extra protective of me ever since my attack. Oh man, I'm going to have to apologize for getting mad.
Cole obviously doesn't want to leave Emerly. I'm not sure if that is his insecurity over Jeremy or his protectiveness of Em, but either way he's going to leave her for a while. She needs a break from men in general for a bit.
Tyler convinced Cole to take an hour away and with a little push from Emerly about wanting a burger, the boys were out of the room. I think a beer with the guys and a few pats on the back will be exactly what Cole needs to settle down. Maybe Tyler can get him to relax about Jeremy. All of us know Jeremy isn't the family man kind of guy. And the brief break is what Em needs to deal with this little problem too.
Does she still have feelings for Jeremy despite the crappy way he's treated her? I would hate to see her get burned again by a man who only cares about himself.
It didn't take long before Maggie and Lily came back. Apparently the men wanted some male bonding without us females around. And that's just fine with me. I need my friends and I want to hear about Maggie's honeymoon and Lily's new job with Harper and I think Emerly needs to vent about what happened earlier. She's a bit wound up.
"I can't believe him! Why?! Why would he do this to me? He bitched and complained about me and Ryder during the entire labor! I don't even know why he stuck around for the entire thing. He could have left at any time, but no, he had to watch Ryder be born!" Maggie and I looked at each other thinking the same thing. Jeremy wanted to be there? "The idiot even passed out!"
"Wait! He was stuck in the elevator with you and when you guys were rescued, he still stuck around?" I don't think I understand that either. Jeremy is the typical dodger of responsibility.
