Jughead and Tabitha have been getting closer, and aren't doing a great job of hiding it. *Cough cough* a little heavy on PDA.
Jughead wrapped an arm around his girlfriend's shoulders, stroking her hair as she leaned into his side. The couple were cuddled up on the bank of Sweet-Water River, watching the sunset with their friends scattered around them. They were dressed in swimmers, with one, large beach towel draped around their intertwined bodies. Occasionally, one of them would lean in to kiss the other, catching them by surprise and causing them both to giggle giddily.
"Jug, Tabitha, do you guys want to play volleyball with us?" Archie called, pulling his shirt off and tossing it onto his picnic blanket.
"Maybe later," Tabitha replied, her eyes closed, and her head tucked into the crook of her boyfriend's neck. As he gently placed his chin on the top of her head, he caught the sweet, minty scent of her breath, mingling with her vanilla perfume. They knew that their friends were staring, but they didn't care; this was their evening to enjoy.

"I guess we're playing three on three," Betty called over the net, "V, Toni and Reggie against Archie, Fangs and I?"
She wasn't surprised that her friends weren't interested in joining the game. In fact, they'd been glued to each other all afternoon; Jughead carrying Tabitha on his shoulders when they went swimming, cooking burgers together for lunch and albeit, spending an irregular amount of time taking a "joint bathroom break" in the forest. Betty was happy for them, seeing the way their faces lit up around each other. Jughead was far changed from the depressed alcoholic she'd encountered upon returning to Riverdale, and Tabitha was positively glowing.
"Man, those two need to tone down the PDA," Reggie whispered loudly over the net, gesturing to where the couple had begun to make out underneath a tree.
Veronica smacked his arm playfully, "Stop it, they're the cutest! Both of them look so happy!" And it was true. Even as they passionately kissed, the lovers were smiling coyly, fully enraptured in each other.
"But still," Reggie complained, "We don't go at it that heavily when everyone can see us, Ronnie."
She rolled her eyes, reaching to mess up his hair.
"Well, I for one am happy for them. Tabitha's the sweetest person alive, and Jughead deserves a break for once."
Toni nodded in agreement, sliding under the net to join their conversation.
"And I haven't seen him drink in months! Not since she started driving him to all of his AA meetings."
Archie nodded, temporarily pausing his rally with Fangs and glancing towards his friends.
"I've seen him help her too," and then in a lower voice, he added, "the other night she came to my place, completely hysterical about something and he had her laughing within minutes."
Reggie made a small noise of approval, and Veronica smiled affectionately at him.
"As much as I love them," Betty added, "I'm looking forward to the day they move in together."
Archie tossed her the volleyball, taking a step backwards, "Agreed. Those walls aren't nearly as soundproof as they think they are.
...
"Do you think they're talking about us?" Tabitha asked, glancing down the bank at where their friends were clustered around the volleyball net, glancing every so often back towards them.
Jughead took a sip from his soda can, staring thoughtfully at the group.
"Definitely," he decided.
Tabitha sighed, moving her head out from where it was tucked under Jughead's chin.
"Do you want to go and join the game? We could both use the exercise."
He violently shook his head, causing her to laugh affectionately.
"I refuse to partake in any physical activity, and you can't make me."
She sighed dramatically.
"Typical Jughead Jones. I guess I'll just have to go by myself." She stood up, brushing the grass off her bare back.
Instantly, he jumped up, grabbing her hand and throwing the towel to the ground.
"Actually, I think I'll come."
From a little way off down the bank, he heard Fangs call, "co-dependent much?"
"Get lost, Fogarty." he shot back.
Tabitha giggled, dropping his hand and taking off jogging towards the group.
"Come on. I bet I can serve that ball better than you can milkshakes."
"Oh, it's on."
