"Hello Mr Munson" she calls cheerily as she approaches the older man who, she can't tell if he's just getting back to the trailer or just leaving it. Although judging by the time on her watch he's probably leaving for his night shift at the plant where he works.
He turns to face the voice, a smile appearing on his face as he sees her, "You know you can call me Wayne, there's no need to be all proper around here" he reminds her and she nods in reply. He's told her the same thing countless times but still she insists on calling him Mr Munson.
"Is Eddie home" she asks hopefully as he hadn't been at school but that was nothing new and even when he was he wasn't always paying attention.
"In his room" Wayne confirms, pointing towards the back end of the trailer even though they both know that she knows where Eddie's room is. "I will warn you though he's been in a weird mood all day" he says, his tone matter of fact but she can see the worry etched on his face.
She thanks him and he bows his head in response before leaving her at the door of the trailer. Watching him walk away made her wonder if her parents would worry for her the same way he does for Eddie, not that she gives them much to worry about as her grades are good and she doesn’t get into trouble. The truth is they only seem to care about their jobs and their public image and growing up an only child it gets kind of lonely.
Wandering into the trailer she can here the sound of Eddie's guitar, it's not loud enough to be plugged into an amp but she guesses it's loud enough for him to block out the sound of her making her way towards his room where she stops, leaning against the door frame with her arms crossed in front of her chest. She stands there for a few minutes and her presence goes unnoticed by the boy so it gives her time to watch him in a way that usually no one sees, the real Eddie, no facade, no pretending that the words spat his way don't hurt him. She watches as his brows furrowed and his fingers still on the strings before attempting the same few motions again and again but they don't go as planned and the guitar is dropped to the side in frustration. This is when she thinks he'll finally realise she's there but he doesn't instead his hands come up to his face rubbing his eyes as he flops backwards on the bed with a sigh.
Always so dramatic, she thinks with a small smile on her face as she decides it's time to make her presence known to him. "Oh how the mighty fall Eddie Munson, how the mighty fall" she muses, chuckling a little as Eddie, eyes wide, shoots up off the bed and comes to a defensive stance a couple of feet from her.
"Jesus H Christ how long have you been there?'' he exclaims, his posture softening when he realises that it's only her.
"Long enough" she smirks, making her way over to him and letting him pull her into a hug, her body melting against him as he sighed again; however, this time it was one of contentment.
Once they pulled away from each other he pulled her over to the bed and let her sit as he reached for the guitar to put away, she watched as he carefully hung it up and let his fingers run along the strings one last time before he came to join her on the bed. She couldn’t help smiling as she watched him with the guitar, there was a running joke between them that he was dating both her and it from the way he treated it.
"Missed you today" she mumbled, leaning into his side once he sat back down on the bed, her head resting on his shoulder and she tilted it so she could look up at him. Only humming in response he tilted his own head so that he could place a quick kiss on her lips before guiding them both backwards so that they were laid staring up at the ceiling.
"Wasn't feeling it I guess" he spoke after a while and it was clear he wasn't going to offer anything else voluntarily.
Rolling onto her side and propping herself up on her elbow she gazed down at him, "wanna talk about it?" She offered, her free hand reaching over to brush some loose strands of Eddie's hair out of his face before resting against his cheek, her thumb brushing against his skin soothingly. No reply came from him but he looked up at her, his brown eyes not holding the same sparkle they normally do in fact they seem dull and she notices the tiredness there. "Your uncles worried, I can see it and I know he doesn't worry about nothing, please Eddie talk to me baby, I want to help" she pleads as a last resort at getting him to open up.
Slowly he reaches for her hand, moving it for his cheek to his lips so that he can press a soft kiss to it before entwining their fingers and leaving their joined hands to rest against his chest. "I don't know I guess I just kinda feel stuck you know, repeating this year yet again and I know everyone sees me as a failure, hell even I know I'm a failure but I don't know I guess I just thought this year would be different" he reveals, eyes avoiding her as he stares up at the ceiling.
"Your uncle doesn't see you as a failure and I definitely don't see you as a failure Eddie, look at where you started and where you are now" her hand gave his a reassuring squeeze as she spoke.
"And yet I still can't pass O'Donnells stupid class at this point I may as well just quit" he huffs pulling his hand from hers and he raises both of his arms to cover his face.
"Eddie, please look at me" she pleads, sitting fully and reaching out to try and pull his arms from his face. He lets her but closes his eyes still avoiding meeting her eye, she tries his name again softly and he finally resents his watery eyes meeting her own. "You are not a quitter Eddie Munson, you are so close to achieving what you need to pass, are you really going to give it all up and let those idiots think that they were right about you? This is your year Eddie I can feel and when graduation comes I'm going to be front row cheering you on as you take that damn diploma and prove to everyone just how wrong they were about you" she declares, confident in her words and it's hard for Eddie to not believe her.
"86' baby" he lets out a watery laugh as he rubs his eyes, feeling a little silly for doubting himself but thankful for her and her belief in him.
"That's right" she smiles, reaching for his hands again this time to pull him up into a hug. He follows with no resistance, pulling her into his lap and holding her tight.
"God damn I love you so much sweetheart" his voice muffled as he speaks into her neck but she hears him and feels his smile against her skin.
"I love you too and nothing is going to change that" she smiles, feeling his hold around her waist tighten in response. "Now come on let's go do something crazy" she laughs, wiggling out of his grasp and pulling him along with her.

This was it, he had done it just as she said he would. He had stayed true to his word and walked across the stage, looked Principal Higgins dead in the eye and snatched his diploma while flipping him the bird and then got the hell out of the school ignoring all the shouts and protests of his actions and only stopping to take y/n with him.
"I'm so proud of you" she smiled once they reached his van, her cheeks aching from how much she had smiled since she had met up with him that morning. Her throat was also a little sore from how much she had cheered for him as he walked across the stage but she didn’t care her boy had proved everyone wrong and graduated with more than his expected grade.
"I couldn't have done it without you, my biggest supporter even when everything seemed hopeless, you were there cheering me along" he smiled leaning over the centre console so that he could kiss her properly.
"Okay, enough with that sappy shit lets go celebrate" she laughed when they pulled apart, only half joking because she loved it too much when he was like that but tonight was about him and she intended to show him that.
