Unsteady Beginnings

Yoongi stares at Hoseok and a nagging thought says: would it really be so bad if they just took Hoseok to a shelter? A shelter Dr. Kim trusted of course. If they kept him, where would he sleep? And maybe Hoseok needed more help than they could provide. He didn't know how to help a hybrid through a mating season; Namjoon and Jungkook didn't have anything like that. He only had to worry about Y/N's heats and honestly, that is enough by itself. Would it be so bad if he gave Hoseok up?

Hoseok smiles at him, a smile that transforms his whole face and makes Yoongi feel... Just then Y/N comes back, a broad smile on her face. Hoseok reaches out to her, and she automatically slots her hand into his. Too late, it is too late to consider it. She has already claimed him as her own, Yoongi can see that, and she would probably rip him to pieces for even suggesting taking Hoseok to a shelter.

"Y/N why don't you two go back to the exam room. I just need to ask Dr. Kim some questions." She nods happily, tugging the fox with her, his tail swaying happily.

"Foxes are seen as good luck by a lot of people." Dr Kim says with a warm smile and Yoongi laughs briefly.

"I don't know anything about foxes, I mean what do I do about the Breed, about this whole season? Do I put him on suppressants until he adjusts?"

"Honestly?" Dr. Kim eyes him, a mischievous glint in them. Yoongi nods earnestly, "I would say suppressants for three weeks to counteract the Breed, but then let your hybrids take care of him." Before Yoongi can protest, Dr. Kim plows on,

"Sex for hybrids is different in a lot of ways. It's a way for them to connect and feel like they belong. Sex and physical affection are very important for foxes in particular. They have been genetically engineered that way. They were originally designed for single individuals as emotional support hybrids." Dr. Kim smiles kindly at Yoongi, as if he already knows Yoongi was thinking about giving Hoseok away.

"It may take some time to adjust, Breed can do funny things to a hybrid, but I promise you, if you stick out these next three weeks, keeping him will be one of the best decisions you've ever made."

Dr. Kim began leading the way back to the exam room. Yoongi follows, a sinking feeling in his stomach. Why had he said if you 'stick out' these next three weeks? What did Breed do to hybrids? He is nervous to find out.

"Yoongi says they're on their way home," Namjoon passes on to Jungkook. Jungkook is curled on the couch under two or three blankets, all Namjoon can see is his face. He seems nervous about the arrival of the new hybrid, but he hasn't said anything to Namjoon yet. Namjoon scratches behind his own ears, a nervous tick, but it instantly makes him feel better, releases endorphins that help him fight the anxiety. He didn't think Jungkook had anything like that.

Yoongi had also asked him to look up the side effects of Breed. So he did that while they waited. Breed was administered to help enhance natural breeding patterns and sperm count. Side effects include uncontrollable arousal, aggression, genitalia sensitivity, mood swings, heightened territorial sensitivity. The list goes on, but he stops there. He scratches behind his ear again. He has a bad feeling.

Namjoon can hear them pull up before Jungkook and he watches the snake hybrid closer, while keeping his ears pricked in the direction of the door. Jungkook suddenly starts throwing blankets off himself when a loud, unfamiliar laugh starts to filter in through the door. 

Jungkook stands slightly behind Namjoon, his teeth slightly worrying his bottom lip. Namjoon takes his hand and squeezes. Jungkook gives him a strained smile. Their attention snaps to the front door as it opens.

Y/N leads the way, holding hands and laughing with a male hybrid. Namjoon is instantly on edge seeing her holding hands with him. 

"Guys, this is Hoseok!" Y/N's voice is bright, confident, and there's a strong hint of fondness. Namjoon looks from their clasped hands and up to Hoseok. He's lean, but even at a glance Namjoon can tell he's fit, which makes sense if he's a dancer. His ears twitch happily on his head and his large tail swings side to side. Hoseok's tail is only about half the length of Y/N's, but twice as fluffy. He has the most infectious smile Namjoon has ever seen.
