#3 Flamingo eat while their head is upside down?!
Every animal ever existed in this world are all beautiful in their own way but flamingos have a different kind of beauty even you'd be jealous of! Flamingos are tall, pink beautiful animals that have slender legs, long graceful necks, large wings and short tails. They use their long necks to help themselves get food from shallow waters. How? Evolution favoured individuals that can feed in both shallow and deep water without getting wet. If food in shallows gets scarce, flamingos can feed by muddying the water and digging with their beaks. The range is about 90 to 150cm tall. Meaning they would be about 3 to 5 feet tall. Flamingos are highly gregarious birds that are extremely beautiful. They get their warm pink colour from their foods. Carotenoids give carrots their orange colour or turn into ripe tomatoes red. Mating occurs in the water. The male jumps onto the female's back from behind, firmly planting his feet on her wing joints. After mating, the male stands on the female's back, then jumps off over her head. Did you know that also when flamingos are pregnant with their chick, they are only pregnant for about 21 to 31 days! Who knew pregnancy was easy for them? As beautiful as flamingos look, they don't look as great while eating with their head upside down. The reason for this is because when a flamingo is feeding, it will put its neck down under the water with its mouth essentially upside. It will then close its mouth and force the water through comb-like extensions on its beak using its tongue in order to push the water out while keeping all the food in. Knowing they eat upside down, they only eat foods that are in water. Their life is practically always in shallow waters. Flamingos eat algae, small seeds, tiny crustaceans (like brine shrimp), fly larvae and other plants and animals that live in shallow waters.
Imagine eating your meal while your head is upside down. Wouldn't that be creepy?
