#1 giraffes taste the female giraffes urine when mating?!
I'm pretty sure you know what a giraffe is, well most people do. Giraffes, or in other words Giraffe Camelopardalis, are well known by most of the world to have the longest necks. They are long necked mammals that have brown spotted spots scattered amongst their yellow coloured body. To tell their gender, you can see just by looking at their nosecones. (columnar or conical skin-covered bone structures on the heads of giraffes, male okapi, and some of their extinct relatives).Females are often thin and tufted whilst the males normally have thicker nosecones that become bald on top. While most mammals live on eating grass and animals as their meals, giraffes live on eating Acacia. Acacia known commonly as mimosa is a polyphyletic (a group of orgasms), genus of shrubs and trees. Acacia comes from the tree named, wattles. They also use their tongue, which can grow up to 21-inches long, to help them pluck tasty morsels from branches! As lovable giraffes can be, most people are scared of the long necked mammals. This phobia is called Germaphobia. But here's the weird thing about these long necked mammals. In order for the male giraffe to mate, they need to taste the female giraffe's urine, also known as their pee, to see if they are worthy enough to mate with and to detect whether certain hormones are present which indicate that the female is ready to "mate". They will literally headbutt the female giraffe in the bladder until they pee! The male giraffe also needs to make sure that the hormones of the female giraffe are ovulating. This also defines if the female is ready for baby making! Giraffes are also polygamous, meaning having more than one mate, meaning that dominant males mate with all the females in the herd who are fertile. Even though this is quite weird to know how giraffes mate, it's pretty cool how they are the only mammals that do this!
Imagine having to do that before getting married or hooking up with someone.
