"No."
"Pleaseeeee! We're begging you!" Nishinoya desperately pleaded.
Nishinoya was currently trying to get a favor out of his Coach, who could care less out of anyone, to help the two boys in their urgent situation. They had no other options, and this was the only plausible idea that Nishinoya could come up with.
Ukai tried prying the boys clinging arm off the right side of his jacket, but he wouldn't budge. "Get the hell off me, kid! I'm not partaking in this scheme of yours, it's shady!"
"It's our only option at this point, please! You're our last hope!" he whined, continuing to tug onto the coach's jersey jacket.
The older man kept fighting back and tried pushing nishinoya's forehead away from him. "It's impersonation of a staff member!" He yelled, still struggling to pry himself away from the younger boys grasp. "I'm not going to risk going to jail for something so minor!"
Nishinoya refused to let go.
Kou watched the ridiculous scene play out in front of him, straight-faced but secretly wanting to laugh on the inside.
As annoying as this situation is, this is really funny.
But he knew he'd have to break it up eventually. It was pointless trying to get out of his mothers strict rules. He never managed it before, so what made him think he could he manage it now?
He sighed, and finally spoke up.
"Stop!" He raised his voice, causing both Ukai and Noya to pause in the middle of their fight for who's grip was stronger and looked at the boy in sync.
"It's fine. Just forget it. I don't need to be at the practice match anyway, and I doubt I'll miss much. It's not like the teams need me there, so you don't have to pretend to worry."
Nishinoya couldn't believe it.
The team didn't need him?
Was that the only thing Kou thought he cared about?
One thing might be true.
The team didn't need him.
Nishinoya needed him.
And what did he mean by "you don't have to pretend to worry"?
That's right.
He didn't have to pretend to worry.
Because he wasn't pretending.
It was painfully real.
He could feel feel it in his chest.
Coach Ukai stared at the strange boy in front of him. He appeared unbothered and impassive, but he could tell something was hidden under his unperturbed demeanor.
Strangely enough, he found himself feeling sorry for the kid. Whatever his situation was, it must have been dire if they had resorted to asking himself, the last person to be mistaken for actually caring about other people's personal problems, for help.
The coach decided to do what he would never finding himself doing in any ordinary occasion.
He was going to help them.
Ukai let out a long leisurely sigh of defeat. He let go of Nishinoya's shoulder and crossed his arms.
"Fine. I'll help." Nishinoya immediately lit up. "BUT JUST THIS ONE TIME!" Ukai interrupted, adding onto his words. "No exceptions. I'm only doing this so you'll stay off my ass."
