Lunchtime Fun

Kou usually didn't eat lunch. He never had time to pack his own, and he didn't have anyone making bentos for him, not anymore at least. That was his job now. He was too tired from getting up early, cooking the food, packing his mom's bento, then his brothers, then getting the laundry done and getting himself ready for school all simultaneously, so he never found the energy to deal with it.

He sat in the classroom, where he was safe with other students present, to avoid ryusuke from coming to look for him. All he did was listen to music instead of eating.

This was the only time he ever truly got relaxation at school. He was listening to his favorite rock band, Black Stones, on full blast.
He liked when the volume was high enough to hurt his ears. He liked not being able to hear anything either. It helped him believe that he didn't exist for a while, and neither did anything else around him.

He tapped his fingers on his desk, matching the beat of rhythm to the music he was listening to.

Moments like this and the other day when him and Noya went to the park and admired
the stream, were the only times where he truly felt far away.

They were his only saving graces, and with music and that special spot he now held an deep attachment to, as if it were now apart of his soul;

he could escape from everything whenever he needed to.

But today, for some reason, from somewhere or something all-knowing and extremely powerful, an unstoppable force in charge of controlling whatever world–line Kou existed in, defied Kou's deepest wishes and decided that wouldn't be the case today.

He felt his headphones being slipped off his ears and the music abruptly stopped.

He opened his eyes to see an familiar friendly face with that same warm, understanding smile that it always held.

"Surprise!"

Noya laughed.

Nishinoya's laugh reminded him of music.
The sound was helplessly contagious and seemed to stick itself in his head.

How weird.

Nishinoya thought he looked funny jamming out to the music so expressively. That's the first time he'd ever seen him express any kind of emotion before. Kou seemed to be really into it.
