MISTKIT
"Mistkit?" A kind, warm voice said. Mistkit whirled around, and found herself in a beautiful forest, knowing it was a dream and wondering where the voice had come from. A slender, starry figure appeared beside her. Mistkit leapt away from her in shock. Soft green eyes gazed down at her. W-who are you?" She stammered in surprise.
"I am Spottedheart. Icestar's sister. I have come to deliver a message to you. ThicketClan will fall into a great danger soon. A danger only you can save them from." The StarClan cat murmured, barely audible.
"If she follows her head
And not her heart,
Blood will be shed
And her fall will be next."Spottedheart's voice echoed, bouncing around the forest as if she were in an empty cave.
Mistkit was puzzled by what Spottedheart had said. "Blood will be shed? Her fall will be next? What's that supposed to mean?" She questioned. "
"You will know soon little one. Trust your heart." Spottedheart mewed as she began to fade away. "And say hello to Icestar for me!"
"Wait, please! How will I know? I need more answers." Mistkit pleaded desperately.
"Trust your heart." The she-cat cast Mistkit a reassuring look before disappearing. She felt as if her mind was plummeting down a cliff into infinite darkness. What does that mean? She thought in bewilderment. And more importantly, what's the incoming danger we're going to fall in?
Mistkit sat in silence, pondering. Why did it have to be her? She was just a kit, a kit with an uncanny ability to either get hurt or drive a warrior off the edge. The StarClan territory swirled around her and the bright forest shifted.
Battle.
Fighting.
Cats yowled in fury and pain all around her. Two warriors tumbled past her, clawing furiously at each other. Mistkit crouched and covered her ears as an ear-splitting screech tore through the air. She half expected holes to be ripped in the sky. Mistkit hesitantly got to her paws and glanced towards where the screech had come from. Her heart ripped in two as she saw the body.
It was Ashcloud.
The once pretty, lean she-cat lay limp on the bloody grass. Her mouth was open in an eternal scream. Mistkit could now see that her throat had been viciously slashed. Ashcloud's gray and white fur was matted and stained with crimson blood.
Mistkit desperately wanted to run over to her mother and wake her up. She wanted Ashcloud to open her eyes and smile her wonderful smile. She wanted to be with her mother again. But she couldn't. She could only sit and watch the battle. Some cat had taken her mother from her. Some cat had killed her. She turned her head away, fighting back tears. She couldn't let DuskClan see her cry. Even if they hadn't noticed her. Because they don't, Mistkit realized. This hasn't happened yet.
It's a vision.
A blue-gray cat flew past her and tackled a sandy tom. "You killed her! How dare you?! Fox-heart! Get out of here, Treestar and take your worthless excuse of a Clan with you!" Icestar raked at the pale tom's underbelly. A bright burst of blood welled up in the wound. Treestar smiled, but it wasn't a normal smile. His smile was malicious and gleeful. Mistkit wanted to do nothing but go rip off that smug sneer right off Treestar's face.
"Fine. DuskClan, retreat!" Treestar managed to stand up and limp over to his warriors. All of ThicketClan glared hatefully at the enemy as they began gathering their Clan. As soon as DuskClan left, Icestar turned round abruptly, marching past the silver kit towards Ashcloud's body.
The blue-gray leader sat and bowed his head. Mistkit had to strain her head and saw the tears dripping onto Icestar's paws. Another cat, this time a silver she-cat with a long mane of fur settled down beside him. She hadn't noticed the body yet.
Now she did.
The she-cat gasped and broke down, burying her muzzle in Icestar's fur.
Tears rolled down Mistkit's face and she let them come. I have to stay strong. It's not real. It hasn't happened.
"But that doesn't mean it won't. Beware of DuskClan, little Mistkit." A voice spoke softly, as if it was right in her ear. She glanced around, but saw nobody.
"Mistkit, wake up. Come on! Stop kicking me!" The eerie voice rung in her ears, but in a different tone. The vision dropped away suddenly and darkness overtook her sight.
~~~
Mistkit snapped awake, nearly shooting out of her nest. Her eyes flew open and she glanced around frantically. Her heart thumped in her chest and her breath came in short, sharp gasps. But as she calmed down, her heartbeat slowed. The moon was high in the sky and lit up everything in the camp. Flamekit and Violetkit stood beside her, eying her with concern. "Are you alright, Mistkit? You nearly sliced my nose off!" Flamekit nudged her in comfort. Mistkit didn't answer him, she was too shaken and horrified to say anything. "You can tell us in the morning whenever you want to." Violetkit interjected. Mistkit nodded and nestled closer to Ashcloud's side. She closed her eyes and fell asleep uneasily.
