Balck Coffee - Chapter 3
Did he just say that? There was no way that he could possibly remember about my usual breakfast, 'eggs on toast', that Harry used to make for me everyday... Unless he remembered.
"Here you go, Louis! On me!" Ben said brightly, dropping a plate off at Louis' table.
"Ben, you don't have to- I have money-" Louis tried, but Ben just put up his finger, telling him to sush. "No need! You've been here, me being your waiter, and giving me an overly generous tip of $5 every single day for a year. It's the least I can do. So please eat!" Ben just smiled and refilled his black coffee.
Louis just smiled in thanks, lost for words. Could Harry be remembering?

A few days later, it was colder, and wetter. Winter was settling in, and Louis could tell that it was going to start snowing any day now.
Tomorrow was his birthday; it was Louis' birthday. Christmas Eve was tomorrow, and he hadn't thought to buy anything for any of his fiends or family. Maybe he'll get Danielle to help him with his sisters and mom, then he could get Niall a nice hat; he'd like that.
It was times like these when Louis wished he never left his home, to go live in a cabin he rented, filled with false hope that Harry might actual remember him. What would his family say if he stayed with Harry for Christmas? How was Niall and Liam doing without the rest of the band? Where was Zayn? He hadn't spoken to Zayn in months...
"Eggs on toast?" Ben asked, ready to write it down. Maybe fighting for something that even the doctors turned down was wasteful.
Louis just nodded slowly, "And black coffee." He couldn't look in those familiar green eyes and give up. He didn't want to ever give up, but this whole game was leading nowhere quick.
Ben raised an eyebrow, looking over Louis carefully. "You alright, man? It's almost Christmas! Put a smile on that face!" Ben strained his voice not to sound worried. Louis has been acting really depressed, and Ben couldn't help but wonder if his regular customer might leave him forever.
Louis looked at Ben, feeling nothing but disappointment. A year of waiting for him led no where. He gained nothing, but the sight of a man he loved, never to return.
"Listen, I get off work in ten minutes," Ben leaned down, whispering to Louis. "Maybe we could go somewhere... Go see a movie or something?" Ben seemed nervous, nonchalantly wiping his hands on his nicely fitting jeans.
Louis bit his lip. Was he making process with Harry's memory or becoming friends with a stranger?
"Sure." Louis said just above a whisper.
A smile broke out on Ben's face, making Louis' heart skip a beat. It was so familiar, as if he and Hazza were back, ready to conquer the world.
"I'll be right back with your breakfast." Ben said before turning back and going into the kitchen.
When his food did get here, Louis ate at an incredible speed. He was used to eating slowly, relishing in the fact that Harry was near, but now, he had limited time before his break was over.
"Ready to go?" Ben came up to his table, taking off his apron. Louis nodded, his mouth full with his last bite of toast, and stood up, getting his wallet out of his pocket to pay. Ben looked at tier height difference, noticing that the older boy was a couple inches shorter, before shaking his head at Louis' wallet.
"Oh, that's all right. I've already paid." Ben gave Louis a kind smile that Louis could only reciprocate.
"Thank you," Louis said as they both began towards the door. "But next time, I'll pay." It wasn't like he was going to run out of money any time soon.
Ben just smiled, pulling his hood over his head. Louis did the same and the two walked through the door, stepping out into the loudly rain. "Want to take your car?" He asked taking a look at his soon-to-be-junk car. Louis just smiled and nodded and the two almost strangers headed towards Louis' car.
The quickly got in, and Louis started the car instantly with shivering hands. The heater blasted, hitting Louis' face warming it instantly. "Would you be all right going to my cabin? I've rented it for the year?"
Ben nodded, his eyebrows furrowing with the questions he's dying to ask, but keeping his mouth shut.
Louis smiled, turning on the radio, the sound of eerily familiar guitar sounded. When he realized what song it was, Louis mad a move to turn it off, but Ben stopped him. "Wait, I'm liking the sound of it."
Louis could only take a deep breath and begin driving out of the parking lot before the words started:
"Don't try to make me stay, or ask if I'm okay; I don't have the answer.
Don't make me stay the night, or ask if I'm alright; I wish I knew the answers.
Heartache: doesn't last forever. I'll say I'm fine.
Midnight: ain't no time for laughing. When you say goodbye.
It makes your lips so kissable and your kiss so missable. Your fingertips so touchable and your eyes...
Irresistible."
I could help but sneak a peak at the green eyed lad, his face was concentration, as he looked at nothing else but his hands in his lap.
"I've tried to ask myself, should I see someone else.. I wish I knew the answer.
But I know, if I go now, if I leave, I'll be on my own tonight. I'll never know the answer.
Midnight: doesn't last forever. Dark turns to light.
Heartache: Flips my world around I'm falling down down down; that's why...
I find your lips so kissable and your kiss unmissable. Your fingertips so touchable and your eyes...
Irresistible.
Irresistible. Irresistible. Irresistible. Irresistible.
It's in your lips, and in your kiss.
It's in you'd touch, and your fingertips.
It's in all the things and other things that make you who you are and your eyes...
It makes your lips so kissable and your kiss so missable.
Your fingertips so touchable and your eyes... Your eyes... your eyes... your eyes... your eyes...
Irresistible."
Perfect timing, they pulled up to Louis' cabin, and he turned off the car and turned to Ben, who remained staring at his hands.
"Ben, are you alright?"
He seemed to snap out of a trance, turning to Louis' questioning stare. "Yes. Who sang that?"
"One Direction." Louis said, trying to keep his voice calm. Maybe Harry would remember if he knew his band's name, and heard a song that had meant a lot to Louis. He meant every word, all to Harry.
Ben just rolled his eyes with a smirk, "Oh that's that one boyband. They sing that's what makes you beautiful, right?"
Louis had the urge to burst into tears. This was impossible. Harry will never remember Louis.
Louis just nodded. "Yeah."
"All I know about them is that one lad called Harry." He said, putting up his hood, preparing for the rain again.
"Yeah." Louis yeah quietly. If he couldn't remember his own name, how was he supposed to remember his friend? "That's him."
