chapter 9

tonight is the night I've been waiting for. capture the flag. the best part is im against tobias so that will be fun.

we all board the train and dish out the paintball guns.

"tris" tobias says "you pick first"

"okay" I smirk "Rachel"

"Killian"

"Emy"

"Alistair"

"tess"

"Finn"

"tommy"

"harry"

the teams are sorted and I stand with the girls and Tommy. tobias gets off first with his team, so it gives us time to form a plan. the game would be much more fun with Uriah and the dauntless borns but there are too many of them to play so we stayed in the initiate groups. we decide to hide our flag in a bumper car and split up.

I immediately know that tobias will be at the Ferris wheel, he did the same last year and we went up together. I see him sitting at the bottom of the ladder. I aim my gun and fire. the paintball hits hi right in the shoulder so glow in the dark pink paint splatters over him. his head snaps up and he sees me. I grin and he does too. he opens his arms and I jog into them.

"nice shot" he says, his voice muffled by my hair

" I learned from the best" I say, he kisses my forehead

"shall we" he gestures to the ladder

"that's unlike you" I push him "wanting to climb a ferris wheel"

"meh, I feel like its somewhere special" he jogs over to the ladder and starts to climb. I follow.

at the tob I take I the breath-taking view of the city. I look beyond the fence. the moon lights the horizon up enough for me to see out. part off me wants to run and never stop until I get out there and find people but the other part knows its safer inside the fence. if I went outside the fence I could be dead right now. I look back at the city I call home, Chicago is beautiful, even after 100 years of damage its still a great site. I wonder what it was like to be here before the war. like the year 2015. if the technology was as good or bad, what clothes they wore what books they read. were their books stories about a world like this? a world that they could only imagine? never to know to be real?

"its beautiful" I breath

"not as beautiful as you" tobias says, breathing heavy, he is still scared of heights. I turn around and kiss him, fireworks burst inside my chest, god I love him. the night air is cool but his lips are warm against mine. he slips his hands around my waist and tugs me towards him, I grip his jacket and pull him closer. we break apart for air breathing heavily.

"you know" i say "this was the place where I first realised I liked you" I smile and he beams

" I first realised I liked you when I threw knifes at your head" I laughs

"really, how is that?" I ask

"remember how I told you to keep your eyes open?" he asks I nod " well I didn't need them open, I just wanted to see them, looking at you is like waking up" he grins, looking gorgeous. "i love you so much" he says

" I love you to" I say

"no" he says "i really love you, not as just a thing you say, I truly love you, I don't just want you in my life I need you in it, there is nothing in the world beyond you. the Erudite say that the earth is millions of years old but for me its only 18, because nothing, for me, existed before you were born. because you are my world. I love you so much sometimes I forget that you're another human, I feel like you are part of me and im a part of you that you have to be their for me to breath, but your so damn beautiful I cant breath."

he holds my hand and pulls me into him, I cant think, I cant breath, that is the most beautiful thing anyone has ever said to me. I jut want to kiss him and stay in his strong arms forever. tears of happiness roll down my face. he wipes them away

"tris" he says softly " promise me, that one day you will let me make you mine. promise me that in the future when I ask you for forever you will say 'yes' and then 'I do' I don't need you to say yes now, because I know that you're not ready for me to propose to you and im not ready either. but someday when I work up the right courage; you will say yes"

" tobias of course I will say yes" I blub "i love you so much it hurts. you don't need to ask now, but in time... when you do ask, I promise to say yes" I kiss him hard on the mouth "there is nothing more I want to do than be with you forever" I see his eyes tear up "i will be with you until I die, and I wont stop loving you for an eternity after. I am yours and you are mine, its been that way all along"

"thank you" he whispers. we climb down just as the shooting starts. paintballs fly everywhere. Killian goes down, then tess and Harry then finn. I turn and blast tobias again, the paintballs hitting his stomach and again and again. he crumples over both of us laughing I open his jacket. I hear the initiates stop, I put my hand in the inside pocket and pull out the flag, I just knew he'd hide it there. he looks up atyme and mouths 'well done', he grabs my jacket and pulls m over into a puddle he laughs so I pull a paintball out of my gun and squeeze it in his face, he gags and spits whilst scrambling too his feet.

"we win" I shout, I'd almost forgot the initiates were watching... oops, oh well

"so we can go back now" Alistair yawns

"yes" tobias grins, still wiping his mouth. as we walk back to the train track Emy, Rachel and Tess slip back.

"well done for tonight girls" I say "you showed the lads" they smile and tess blurts out

"are you and four dating?" I try not to look obvious

"no" I say, putting on my best 'gross you guys' face, I have 2 human lie detectors in front of me and an Erudite who would know the symptoms of lying "we're just really good friends, that's all, he was my trainer" I say

"wait then how old is he?" Emy says, her eyes blazing with curiosity "22, and im 20, to answer your next question"

"how did you know what she was asking next" Rachel says sassy like

"one of my friends transferred from candor" I say

"so what faction did you come from, or are you dauntless born too?" Rachel asks

"so many questions" I say "come on, trains here" I say. and we start jogging.
