CHAPTER TEN

I missed her.

There's no bloody hour her biblical face wouldn't flash in my head to haunt me. With every passing time, she's becoming a memory to me; hard to forget, hard to disregard. She's everywhere I see. One moment I see her walking up to me, and the next I'll blink to see an ugly mutant-looking creature coming up to kill me.

My men were aware of my distractions, but none of them came to inquire as to what the bloody hell was going on with their Captain. I could sense their concern and, without a goddamn signal from me, they would back me up, thinking I might mess up our mission and I'd end up killing myself.

I couldn't blame them. I feel like a loose cannon on the verge of exploding. I'd never let anyone get inside my head like this before, but Circe was different.  She's like a witch who enchanted me.

It's fucking scary, honestly.

She made me feel scared, vulnerable, mad, angry, stupid, and a damn mess.

I should have ended my feelings for her the moment she slipped out of my bed that night. I should have forgotten about her, but why did she have to come to the facility and gaze up at me with those scorching eyes of hers?

She had no idea what she had done.  Circe had offered her fucking life to me, and now I couldn't reject it. I could never reject her, dammit!

"Miss Circe kept asking when you were coming back, Sire. I don't think she misses you, I guess she's more eager to kill you."

Nazi, the twelve-year-old boy I picked up on the street, made me want to return to the streets just to steal bread to feed his stomach. After his report on the third day since I brought Circe into my house, my desire to see her has only grown stronger.

But I can't!

Nazi told me Circe didn't request to stay in a different room, she stayed in my bed, covered in my sheets, and cuddled with my pillows.

I'm so bloody obsessed, but I need to goddamn control this madness.

Not only has Eastman escaped, but the families I swore to protect have been ambushed. My men and I had been restlessly protecting them.

I jerked my arm up, blocking my eyes when the house in front of me suddenly exploded. I turned to my men, but they pointed to Bambam.

"Mama mia! Your tremor is bothering me now, Bambam! I told you to bloody hold on!"

Bambam was as white as paper. "I-I didn't mean it, Sir! I was just scratching my butt!"

What a bloody jerk. I was about to curse him when I noticed Callus out of the corner of my eye. Turning my attention from the burning house in front of me, I met my twin halfway. The grim on his face told me he was bearing bad news. Again.

"Don Vitalo was shot, and his family was requesting your protection in the hospital, Calix."

Goddammit!
