"Baby you made it!" Cristina shouts over the loud music.

We're down by the beach at a guy's house from school. Tomorrow is the big move in day on campus. The day after that, our senior year classes start for real. Tonight all students from Seattle Prep are here to enjoy the last free night of summer.

"Hey Cris." I chuckle. "Want some tequila?" she asks. "Please." I whine and take the bottle from her and start chugging.

I wasn't really planning on coming tonight. Cristina is my only friend except for my books, I've never really talked to any of these kids.

But then I had a fight with my mother. It was still summer for two more days but mom was already on me to start medical school applications, even though I'm not sure I want to follow in her footsteps.

I told her I wasn't that interested in the medical field and of course she went crazy on me. I should've known better.

Now I needed some alcohol to take my mind off things.

"Slow down Mer, unless you wanna end up in a hole somewhere."

"I'll take the chances." I mumble while swallowing the liquor.

She chuckles then suddenly spots someone. "Hey I think I just saw Owen, be right back!" she said and sprinted off. I chuckle and down some more tequila. Then I hand it off to some random dude. I don't need that much alcohol to feel a strong impact of it.

I'm not counting on Cristina coming back anytime soon so I decide to take a walk along the beach in the meantime.

I'm walking along the shore, further away from the party when I notice a camp fire not that far away. I decide to keep walking.

When I reach the fire there's a man sitting there on a wooden stock. He's alone and doesn't notice me as he's staring into the fire.

He's got nice hair, that's the first thing I notice. Well..the only thing I notice really since I can't exactly see his face.

I usually don't start conversations with strangers but the tequila gives me courage to speak.

"Nice camp fire."

He jumps slightly and looks up at me. He was obviously unaware that he had company.

Oh fuck he's hot. Like really making-my-panties-wet-dreamy-hot..

Did I just tell this guy he has a nice camp fire??

"Stupid stupid stupid.."

"What's stupid?" he chuckles.

Crap did I say that out loud??

"Me. I'm stupid. I shouldn't be allowed around other people, I'm a master at creating weird situations.." I ramble.

"I like weird." He shrugs casually and smiles a dreamy smile.

I chuckle back nervously.

Fuck he's cute too. Ok Meredith let's try again.

"Are you waiting for someone?"

"I'm not."

"Mind if I join you?" I ask which makes him smile.

"Not at all." he says.

I sit down on the stock.

"Why are you sitting here all by yourself?" I ask.

He shrugs. "Sometimes I like to just sit alone and think.. or not think at all.."

I just nod. I don't show that I relate a bit to much.

"What about you? How come you're all by yourself?" he asks.

"Why wouldn't I be?"

He chuckles softly and shake his head.

"Cause I doubt a girl as beautiful as you would spend a night like this one alone."

I try to hide my blushing cheeks.

"Well, I'm not alone now, am I?"

"I suppose not." he says and looks at me.

Our eyes lock for what feels like an eternity but is probably just for a couple of seconds. Then he looks away and clears his throat. I look away at the sound of the crashing waves.

I suddenly feel him moving slightly closer. He's trying to be discreet but I definitely notice it.

"What's your name?" he asks.

"Meredith. Yours?"

"Derek."

He reaches his hand forward for me to shake and it makes me giggle. Which makes him smile.

"I like the sound of your voice." he says, still wanting me to shake his hand.

"I like yours too.." I say. I take his hand in mine and try to ignore the sparks of electricity going trough my veins at the feeling of his rough yet soft hands against my skin.

"Meredith?" he whispers.

"Derek." I whisper back.

We're still holding hands.

"This may seem a bit forward.. I really only know your name.. but.. would you mind if I kissed you?"

Also I've never been to Seattle but I don't think there's a beach like the one I'm imagining but let's just pretend there is.
