Juanita and Anton carried on with their lives - separately. Juanita grew old in her lonely town and still dealt bravely with the loss of her husband and the loss of his chance to be with Anton. She was in great pain and she felt empty through the years. Having no child to take care of her, she spent her golden years at a home for the aged. She was able to use her savings for both her and Mike.

Every day, she was haunted by her aches. Juanita died at the age of eighty-four. During her last vulnerable moments, she spent her entire time reading and sobbing over Anton's letters. She smiled and cried, allowing herself to be brought back to the past. She died with only having Anton's name on her lips. She was also looking forward to death because she thought that it'll be the time she could reconnect to Mike, the man who taught her never to be afraid to love again.

Anton learned to love Theresa through the years. They had five wonderful children who were all successful and loving to them. Theresa burned all Juanita's letters that Anton kept behind her sacred drawers and both of them learned to forgive each other for their insufficiencies.

Anton only found out about Juanita's death because of the obituary in the newspaper. Suffering from Dementia, Anton tried his best to remember the familiarity of the name. Little did he know that it was his greatest love.
