Aragon could feel her eyes burning into his back as they left Rivendell. She had to know it wasn't what he wanted either, but one day He would die - and he can't do that to her. He shook away his thoughts. Right now, he had to focus on the mission; there was nothing more important.

Throughout the trip Aragorn had been skeptical of Boromir. The man was so drawn to the power of the ring, it was as if he couldn't help himself. It was luring him in, waiting for a chance. It was pure evil, and Legolas had noticed this too.
Boromir was a great man, however there was something they could not trust.

They had walked for days and the young hobbits grew tired. Sometimes Gimli would sing for them or Legolas would speak of adventures and visa versa. The two thought it a competition: who could sing the best song.
Now Gimli was singing of the King under the Mountain and boasting about how his father was there, as well as Bilbo - the great burglar. Legolas smiled. He was walking alongside Aragorn.

"I remember that," He said quietly. "Sixty years ago. We found them in my Father's forest, attacking the spiders." Legolas closed his eyes as if he could picture it. "We locked them in cells thinking them evil. I met Gimli's father that day." He chuckled. "An ugly baby, he was"
Legolas looked good this way, Aragorn thought, forgetting the mission and remembering old times - he was truly beautiful.
The sun shined on his golden hair and his blue eyes glazed over. Aragorn bit his lip.
"You're not listening, Ranger." He laughed.
Aragorn moved his eyes back to the path ahead. "Sorry."
"I said Tauriel had fallen in love with one of them. His name was Kili." He grimaced. "An elf and a dwarf." He looked to Gimli, faking vomiting like a kid. "My father banished her from the Kingdom of course, but I followed her to the mountain."
Aragorn coughed. "Is she your.. Lover?"
"No." Legolas looked down. "She disappeared after the Battle of Five Armies. Kili died and she could never love again, there was a time when I thought we could be, but she was nothing more than my best friend - my sister."

Aragorn felt strangely happy about that. He'd noticed from the start how beautiful Legolas was, and he had a delightful personality to match. He was smart and could be seious but he also loved to tease Gimli and the hobbits. He was wise too, and Aragorn wondered how old he was. He seemed youthful, but then again all elves did.

"Perhaps she went to Valinor, to be with him." Aragorn said and shared an intimate smile, making Legolas go red. An elf moving to that place was rare and incredibly special. It was for those whose soulmates had died. Of course not all went, and some even questioned if soulmates were real, but it was true that only those who loved another so deeply would travel to Valinor.

Gimli's laugh roared across from where he was walking at the head of the fellowship. "Who'd a thought that Thorin would fall for a Hobbit of all creatures!" He said.
"What!?" Frodo exclaimed. "Bilbo never mentioned that!"
Gimli chuckled. "Oh it was the talk of all company - it was Bilbo who found the hidden door and saved the King from his Dragon-Sickness. My father always said theirs was the truest love he'd ever seen." He told him. Aragorn turned to the blonde elf.
"Is this true?" He asked and Legolas smiled and nodded. It was true. Bilbo had charmed all the dwarves, but it was Thorin whom he loved the most.

Gandalf stopped. "Tonight we rest here!"

Legolas watched the skyline, keeping a look out for danger as the others fed and rested. Boromir and Aragorn were teaching Merry and Pippin how to wield a sword and Frodo laughed at them from where he sat.
Boromir had managed to disarm them and grinned in victory, but the hobbits had not finished yet.
"For the Shire!" They shouted and kicked him down. Aragorn went to stop them but he too was knocked to the floor. Legolas chuckled at him and he looked to the elf, smirking evilly as if he were about to attack him too. But of course the world wouldn't let them be at peace for long:

"What's that?" Sam asked, pointing to the sky in the east. Legolas jumped up and ran to the edge of the rock he sat on.
"What do your elf eyes see?" The ranger asked.

It was the spies of the enemy.

"TAKE COVER!"
