Legolas couldn't sleep. He'd tossed around so much in the past few hours he'd picked up a light sweat. He climbed out of bed, wrapped up in a elvish silk night robe and thought restlessly. It sounded as if everyone else was asleep - but how could they? The mission they were going on was suicide and it frightened the hell out of him, but Legolas knew it had to be done.
He walked to the terrace. It overlooked the waterfalls of Rivendell. He'd always loved it here, although he much preferred the greens of Mirkwood.
He hopped silently onto the balcony ledge and looks down into the falls. At the bottom by the rock he could see a muscular figure, hunched over, and with his elven eyes he soon recognised that handsome face - it was Aragon.Legolas climbed down, creeping up to him. The man was crying, or at least he had been, and didn't hear Lego coming until he sat right next to him, leaving a couple inches between them. Aragorn snapped his head round, giving the elf a hard look, but he just smiled tightly and greeted him in elvish tongue.
"Can't sleep?" Aragorn asked, making Legolas look down ashamed - he realised he must've looked terrible, but Aragorn soon acknowledged his own crudeness as he soon added: "Not that you look bad - I mean you don't, definitely not! But I just mean.."
"It's fine." Legolas smiled, amused by his rambling. "But no; this mission..."
Aragorn glanced at him. "Suicide. I know."They sat in silence for a while, not awkward, but they were both just thinking about the weeks to come and what dangers they would face. Legolas also wondered why he was so upset. Aragorn was a ranger - so he couldn't possibly be crying over the mission... So what was it? He realised he must of spoken aloud because the human sighed and turned to him.
"Arwen and I, we broke it off."
The elf felt terrible as he looked away in order to hide his smile. "Oh..."Legolas hadn't really been in a serious relationship so he had no idea what to say, but Aragorn didn't seem to mind.
He looked at him and smiled. "It wouldn't of worked anyway," he breezed. "She's an elf - an immortal, I'll just die."
Legolas felt a stab of disappointment somewhere deep inside his chest. "Yeah, you should find a nice human." He smiled tightly and the conversation dropped.Aragorn stood and held a hand out to help him up, although they both knew the elf was fully capable of doing so himself.
"Goodnight, Legolas." He smiled down at him, but Lego couldn't even answer.
The way the moon was shining down on them was perfect, and it shimmered on the water. To Legolas, Aragorn's eyes were brighter than any of the stars and he felt a gravitational force drawing him towards the man. He was unconsciously getting pulled in, as if Aragorn was the sun to his solar system. The connection dropped when Aragorn noticed him staring. Legolas looked down, red blooming on his high cheekbones.
"Good night, Strider." He smiled.————————————————————————————————————————————————
