Once I was done with my warm up I got out to go look at the lineup. Dragging my finger down the list to my name 'June Jekowen'. My family says we have Hawaiian traits I know we have a Hawaiian last name but for some reason I'm the only tan looking person in my family, weird I know. Next to my name is 50 free, 100 backstroke, 200 free relay, and 400 free relay all JV except 400FR. 'Why did Joe put me in exabition 400FR' I wonder. My thoughts are interrupted by Harper."he didn't have enough people." She says. Now Harper's my best friend and somehow she seems to always know what's up with me weather it's bad or good(sometimes I wonder if she has some kind of mind reading skills).
"What?" I say.
"You were wondering why Joe put you in exabition."
"How did you know?!"
"I just knew"
"Weirdo"
"I know"
I've known Harper FOREVER. She's been my best friend through tears, fears, and cheers. I love her so much. "Do you have a marker" I ask. "Sure do!" She says "But you didn't get it from me ok?" Giving a marker to someone during a swim meet is chaos, you give it to one person you might as well say good bye to it forever. I start to write down my races on my arm(so I don't forget) but then someone comes up behind me and covers my eyes. "Gracie I don't have time for this I have to write down my races" I say. I"'m not Gracie!" A sweet, gentle, manly voice says.
"Hhhmmm let me guess..JOHN!
"You got it!" John says
He takes his hands off my eyes. I turn around and say "hey!"
"Hi" he says.
There's a kind of long awkward pause as I stare into his beautiful, beaming, blue eyes and he stares back. I look away, those eyes get me every time I see them. "When are you going to swim" John says
"Soon"
"When's soon"
I hear the announcer say "50 free exabition. In lane one Jane kernet, in lane two..."
"Like now" I say to him.
"When's now"
Ugh John is such a dork. A very cute dork.
"After this race" I answer.
"Ok I better go back to the stands than so I can watch you"
"Ya probably"
Another long pause, with eye looking, and wanting to kiss him. He breaks it "alright I got to go"
"Ok" he looks back and waves. Harper comes over and gives me 'the look' I say "shut up" and blush a bit she asks "you have my marker?"
"Yup right here"I answer.
