It was three in the morning when Lydia woke up to a huge crash coming from her kitchen. She grabbed the closest thing she had to a weapon near her. Thankfully it was a baseball bat that she used to use when she was in a baseball league many years ago. Quietly she crept towards the kitchen, seeing a shadowy figure...Cooking? It was a really pathetic attempt. The pan was on fire, she wondered how she hadn't smelt the smoke earlier. Raising her bat she walked the intruder over the head, knocking them out.

She immediately turned on the lights to see the intruder. She couldn't believe it. It was her uncle! She hadn't seen him in person for years. Yikes. This was definitely not the best greeting. "Hey nice to see you after all these years! Sorry I basically knocked your brains outta your head." Yeah. That would definitely not work. She picked him up. Completely surprised how at how light he was. She set him up in the guest room. She gave him a blanket and some extra pillows to make sure he was extra comfy. He looked almost as sleep deprived as her.

Macaque POV

I woke up with a huge pain in my head, and in a bed that's not mine. There was an amazing scent  in the air that made my stomach growl. I don't even remember the last time I've had a proper meal. I walked into the kitchen and saw my adopted niece cooking some steamed bao buns for breakfast. As I sat down she served me, than sat down across from me. I immediately started eating like a wild animal. Lydia also started eating. It was a nice and comfortable silence as we both enjoyed our meal.

Macaque puts down his utensils. "So how are things kiddo?"

"Things have been... Fine." Lydia looks away.

"That's a lie."

"What-"

"You can't lie to me. I basically raised you." He raises an eyebrow.

"I'm not lying!"

"You look away every time you lie. So what's really going on?"

"I don't want to burden you. It's a quite a lot."

"You could never burden me. We're family!"

"Well... I met Red again."

"You're childhood friend?"

"Yeah and I showed him my real face. Which turned out better than expected. But then I got stuck in one of those cablash things and in there, he liked me...romantically and I was happy but then it all turned out to be fake."

Macaque looks at her with a sad face.

She starts to tear up. "I mean I guess I should have known. Who could ever like somebody with my face?!? I mean I'm barely holding together physically and mentally!"

"I-"

"Oh and on top of that the monkey king has a new successor!" Macaque's eyes widen. "And his new successor just so happens to be one of my closest friends! So now I have to watch somebody else go through the same shit I went through with him! And sometimes I can't help but feeling replaced. But I hate Wukong so why do I care?!"

"I think somewhere deep inside of me I still crave his appreciation..."

Macaque traps her in a tight hug. "I'm not the best at comforting people but just know I know how you feel and I'm free to talk whenever you need it. You won't be alone in this anymore."

All of Lydia's bottled up stress and sadness flows out and she starts sobbing. She cries into her uncle's shoulder while still in a tight hug.
