Ace as a character on the surface is your typical emotionally unvailable man who havent moved pass his bad boy phase, and let's face it almost everyone crushed on some character with the same trope at some point in their life
He's rude, short tempered, and extremly dismissive with that sweet pinch of sercasm on top
But as any good fictional character, i believe that he possess a depth that we haven't dived in nor discussed yet
As to why he turned out the way he is, why did his personality became so rotten yet fascinating
in order to do so we need to start from the very beginning
Having seen his mother get killed on the hands of his own father when he was only 5 years old surely wasn't an easy sight to take in, he loved his mother, finding safety and comfort in her embrace while she smothered him with that sweet motherly affection
yet he adored his father, he found him to be the perfect balance between fun and strict and Ace idolized that
so imagine how it felt when he was introduced to his doing
His world shattered
the boy fled from his home terrified thinking he was about to be next
He wondered the streets for a couple weeks scared, alone, and with no one to turn into, before what seemed to be the light at the end of the tunnel, getting adopted by the local gang
Ace thought his problems were all solved because at the time was nothing but a child, and he's obviously naive as any kid his age should be, so he sticked around, got introduced to this whole unfamiliar and new life style
But unfortunately, throughtout the years he would get constantly exposed to every form and shape of abuse by some older members who found him to be the perfect plaything
He was young, defenseless, weak
Their favorite way of absolutely wrecking him was locking him in a tight pitch black backroom for hours
He would scream and beg for anyone to help with none caring enough to reach out, he didn't understand why would anyone do such a thing, did seeing him in an agonizing state of mind bring them satisfaction?
But... why?
He did not understand.
He wasn't being unapproachable with them, total opposite
So what was he doing wrong?
This went on for years, eventually driving the teen over the edge of sanity, leaving only the shell of what once was an innocent little boy
resulting for him to not only developing claustrophobia, but also to major distrust that intrefered with the way he viewed other individuals in general
Therefore he became more isolated, distant, and self dependent
The years he spent in the underground society made him break out of the blissful ignorance his home once provided
An ignorance of how cruel and agonizing the world could be when you're a rabbit in a game designed by predators
He had to learn the hard way, yet all he felt while staring at his bloodied hands fire surrounding him was that he was grateful
Grateful to the fact that he wasn't the prisoner of a lucid dream most people are living
Life wasn't sunshine and rainbows, and he found the strength to accept that it doesn't have to be for him to be at peace
And he was, for the first time in a long, long while.
What he couldn't predict though, was life itself
It had her own twists and turns, and when sometimes if could be for the worst, it wasn't the case this time
As time passed, he sort of overcome his emotional distancing, allowing bonds to form
It was a peculiar feeling for him, not necessarily unpleasant, but more of a distant memory
He made friends, he fell in love, he grew up, he had a family, and he learned how to live with the ghosts of his past
It doesn't necessarily mean that they disappeared, he's still non trusting of those around him (the exception are the ones he grew fond of), and the psychological and emotional damage were worse to manage (such as nightmares, panic attacks...ect)
Yet he found that maybe, he didn't have to bare it alone, maybe for once he can lean in on a shoulder and expecting it to be there whenever he needed it
he's still learning
He's still growing as a person
To be a husband, a father, a human being in general
He wasn't perfect, but for now, he was content
"In conclusion humans are self centered beings, if given the choice to surrender to their sadastic tendencies with no consequences or restrains, they would happily do so, eventually covering up the act as a action of a higher cause
Truly fascinating
Most would'nt offer a hand unless they would receive something profeting in return. at the end kindness is just an illusion, a cloak that everyone put on and off as they wished for it to be depending on the circumstances, it dosent come natural, or does it flow swiftly as a stream, its a beautiful fantasy that most craves or pretend to pocess for them to play the role of a saint."
