"Viserys... I have to tell you something." Gaena remarked closing his door silently.
"whats wrong?" Viserys questioned rising from bed.
"Has Otto spoken to you?" Gaena asked and Viserys stared at her confused. "Of course he didn't." Gaena muttered. "Viserys... I hate to tell you this. I hate to. But Otto..." Gaena held back the tears. "He... Viserys you know I just want whats best for you right?" Gaena questioned.
"Of course and I you." Viserys agreed as Gaena made her way towards him.
"Damnit..." Gaena hissed as her foot caught on the chair.
"Gaena, sweetie whats going on?" Gaena moved around his room picking up a blade twirling it in her hands. "You are scaring me Gaena." Viserys remarked.
"This was Aegon the conquerors... correct?" Gaena asked softly.
'Yes." Viserys confirmed. "That dagger once belonged to Aegon the Conqueror. It was Aenar's before that. And before that... well, it is difficult to know. Before Aegon's death, the last of the Valyrian pyromancers hid his song in the steel.' Viserys said as Gaena held it out a blade over the fire, a message was revealed.
"From my blood... come the Prince That Was Promised... and his will be the Song of Ice and Fire." Gaena read. 'The responsibility that we as Targaryen's have, it is larger than the throne, the king and future queen. It is larger than you and me.'
"What do you have to tell me?" Viserys questioned as Gaena put the blade down. The throne was a responsibility and she couldn't let her heart get in the way she had to get over the fact that Otto would surely be killed for trying to manipulate her brother. For manipulating her. For working towards his own goals and not the goals of the crown. She had a responsibility to her brother to tell him of the treasonous actions of his own hand.
'There is a vulture who perches upon your throne.' Gaena told him
'What vulture?' Viserys countered confused.
'Your Hand.' Gaena informed him. "Otto." Her throat felt stiff as she said it.
'Otto High tower has served two kings loyally and faithfully.' Viserys assured
'You speak of The Conqueror's vision and the need for strength and unity across the realm. But how can that be accomplished with your most trusted adviser so self-interested?' Gaena offered
'Every lord and lady that calls for an audience with me, every man on my small council, and all councils past, has been self-interested. It is unavoidable.' Viserys informed her
'I disagree.' Gaena whimpered.
"What do you know sweetie?"
"Otto has been sending Alicent to you. Trying to woe you for moons now." Gaena told him.
"what?"
"I just found out recently. I gave him a choice... I told him to resign and take Alicent home or tell you the truth. He did neither, so I have to be the bearer of this news." Gaena told him slowly but her words were clear.
"Otto-"
"Otto was using your grief." Gaena told him willing the tears not to fall. "He was using me... he used my friendship with him to make me think that it wasn't anything but I see clearly now." Gaena told him miserably. "I didn't want to be right about this." Gaena whimpered.
"Gaena..." Viserys sighed.
"He wants the hightower name on the throne Viserys. He set up his own daughter to be a pawn..." Gaena told him disgusted with him to do that to his own daughter. "I love you Viserys. I don't want you to get hurt." Not like she did. She thought as she let out a deep pained breath.
"Thank you, Gaena. For telling me." Viserys told her hugging her tight. "I will handle it."
"I'm sorry Vis."
"No... thank you. Thank you for always having my best interest at heart."
