Sweat dripped down my brow. The ac on the bus had gone out, which was no surprise to me. Our school had crappy funds so the bus ac was almost always out. I was not at all excited to be on yet another of my school's field trips. I guess I should explain more about myself. My name is LJ, short for Laura Jane, but if you ever call me that I will hunt you down and kill you. Anywho, I am 12 years old and I go to Yancy
Academy. Which is a boarding school for kids who have mental problems and like to cause trouble. I don't really have any friends, especially after the incident where I set Nancy Bobofits, (the school's bully) hair on fire after she stuck her foot out and tripped a boy on crutches. I think his name is Grover, he is permanently on crutches, he has some disability but I am not sure what. The boy with crazy black hair that is always around grover gave me a free bag of his illegal candy to thank me for sticking up for his friend. Sorry, I am losing track of the story, I have ADHD so I get distracted very easily. Back to the story. I'm sitting on the bus watching Nancy throw pieces of her sandwich at Grover. It was taking everything in me to not march up there and shove her sandwich down her throat, but I was on probation. The principal couldn't prove that I set Nancy's hair on fire so he couldn't suspend me, so I am on probation, and if any incident involving Nancy occurs, well... I get expelled. I knew the same goes for Grover's friend Percy, I could tell he wanted to do something because of how tense he looked. I decided to try and ignore it and just focused on my fidget cube. Just when I thought I was going to lose my mind, we finally arrived at the museum. It was a museum about Greek and Roman mythology. I wasn't super excited about it because I was failing my Latin class and it just really wasn't all that interesting to me. We all got off the awful bus and followed the Math and Latin teacher, Mrs. Dodes and Mr. Bruner inside the museum. As we entered the museum a cold chill ran down my spine. I looked around but I couldn't see anything so I just tried to shrug off the feeling and follow the rest of the class. The feeling followed me the entire lecture. I was vaguely aware of Mr. Brunner asking Percy a bunch of questions after he had interrupted the lecture. But I couldn't really hear anything. The horrible chill seemed to worsen, I had this awful feel I was being watched and that something was going to happen. I was completely zoned out until Mr. Brunner gave a loud clap and announced it was time for lunch. We all headed outside for lunch. As I was walking outside I noticed Mr. Brunner had kept Percy behind but I didn't think too much of it. I wasn't sure where I should sit to eat my lunch because everytime I drew near a group of kids they all started trembling and scooting away from me. That didn't surprise me much since almost everyone ever had that reaction around me. I noticed Grover sitting by himself at the water fountain. I walked over to him because Grover had that same reaction when I drew near but at least he was nice to me and sometimes had a conversation with me. I walked up to him and said, "Hey, can I sit with you?" He flinched but still nodded.
"Yeah sure," He managed to get out. I noticed he inched away from me a little bit but it didn't bother me. We both started eating our lunch in silence when I couldn't stand it anymore and finally broke the silence, "So, you brought a salad for lunch too?" It was a weird thing to say but I was curious, everyone else usually brings lunchables and other meat filled things. As I was a vegetarian, I always get excited to meet another vegetarian. "I'm a vegetarian so it's either this or peanut butter and jelly." Was his response. My eyes lit up, "Really? I'm a vegetarian too!" He smiled real big when I said that. "That's awesome! I don't like eating other animals, it makes me sad," Grover said. I was a little confused by the way he said other animals, but I brushed it off and said, "Yeah, I'm the same way. I went to a friend's farm once and saw how they made their chicken for dinner and I haven't eaten meat since." Grover nodded at me with understanding and was about to say something else when Percy walked over to us.
Grover looked at his friend and said, "Detention?" Percy shook his head and responded, "Nah, not from Brunner. I just wish he'd lay off me sometimes. I mean-I'm not a genius."
Grover went silent after that. Percy just then noticed I was there. He smiled nervously and said, "Oh hey LJ, I didn't see you there." I wave at him, "Hi, I didn't have anywhere else to sit so Grover let me sit with you guys. I hope that's okay." Percy nodded and sat down to eat his lunch. "That's cool." He said as he stuffed a sandwich in his mouth. The three of us just kind of sat there in silence as we ate our lunches. Everything was fine until Nancy and a few of her goons walked towards us with an evil smirk on her face. She then dumped the rest of her lunch onto Grovers lap. "Oops." She said with a grin on her face. I clenched my fists and glared at one of her goons. The boy backed away slowly with a look of pure terror on his face. I blinked in confusion and then I heard a loud splash. I looked over and Nancy was sitting in the fountain completely soaked. She screamed, "Percy pushed me!" I heard a lot of weird comments from the other students. One said, "Did you see the water?" Another said, "It's like it pushed her." I had no idea what they were talking about but at that moment, the Math teacher, Mrs. Dodds walked over. That cold chill returned in my spine. She glanced at me and then turned to Percy with an evil gleam in her eyes, "Now, honey." She said to Percy. Percy looked at the math teacher and sighed, "I know. A month of erasing workbooks." Mrs. Dodds apparently didn't like that response from percy. "Come with me," Mrs. Dodds said coldly.
"Wait!" Grover yelled. "It was me. I pushed her!" Percy and I both looked at him like he was crazy. Mrs. Dodds glared at him so hard I thought her eyes would pop out.
She finally said, "I don't think so Mr. Underwood." Grover again tried to protest but it was no use. Percy looked at his friend and said, "It's okay man. Thanks for trying." He the got up and followed Mrs. Dodds into the museum. After they had disappeared through the doors, Grover shot up and half limped half ran to Mr. Brunner. I had a really bad feeling in the pit of my stomach so I decided to follow Percy and Mrs. Dodds into the museum. I first checked the gift shop because I thought maybe Mrs. Dodds was going to make Percy buy poor Nancy a new shirt, but when they weren't there, I started really freaking out. Something was wrong. I walked through each room looking for them when finally near the back of the museum, where it was completely empty of tourists I heard Mrs. Dodds voice. I heard her say, "We are not fools, Percy Jackson. It was only a matter of time before we found you out. Confess, and you will suffer less pain." I was confused, what was she talking about? I walked a little faster to the right room and what I saw made no sense. Mrs. Dodds was crouched on top of a banister. But Mrs. Dodds was no longer Mrs. Dodds. She was the tiny bat looking hag with bat wings. "What the.." I muttered and that's when she and Percy noticed I was there. "What's this?" Former Mrs. Dodds hissed. "Another little stray half-blood." I had no idea what a half-blood was, but I didn't have time to ask because that's when Bat lady jumped off the banister and flew straight at me. I was frozen in my spot but I looked her right in the eyes. She let out a loud shriek and swerved face first into the window. Percy and I looked at each other like "huh?" That face plant didn't stop bat Mrs. Dodds for long. She looked right at Percy with hate in her eyes and just as she was about to attack I heard a familiar voice behind me say, "What ho, Percy!" Mr. Brunner was at the entrance of the room and had thrown Percy a Ball point pen. But when Percy caught it, it was no longer a pen but a sword! Mrs. Dodds came out of her shock and flew right at Percy. Percy swung the sword. When the sword sliced her shoulder she exploded into yellow dust. The lights flickered off and when they flickered back on, Percy and I were standing in the room, with only the company of a ballpoint pen.
