I crossed the boundary, and walked into the garden. I heard the alarm sound inside the house but it didn't matter. Sirius was already rising from the stone steps taking ludicrously long steps towards me. I could see in the feeble light emanating from the house that he was utterly furious.
"Merlin Fleury!" he yelled still walking toward me, "You can't just go off like that without telling anyone where you're going! I thought you'd left again!"
I ignored him, and continued to make up the distance between us.
"Where did you go?" He asked. I could see he was still furious but he had lowered his voice.
"I just needed some space. I needed to think." I said looking up at him and his face shifted from anger to concern immediately.
"Are you alright?" He said tucking some of my windswept hair behind my ear, "You're fucking freezing!"
I could see that he was going to hug me in that way he liked. I knew before he did it that he would pull me close, wrap his arms tightly around me, bury a hand in my hair and hug me until he was satisfied with the moment. And I was right; he put his arms around my body and pulled me roughly towards him, his arms encircling me like a human cage.
Instead of doing as I always did, and nestle against his hard chest, I lifted my head just as he slid his fingers into my hair. I stood on my toes, lifted my arms to fit in the crook of his neck, and, copying him more because I couldn't do without it in this moment than for any other reason, slid my hand into his long black hair. I looked him straight in the eyes for the briefest moment, confusion clouding his features before I pulled him closer and touched my lips to his.
He stood completely immobile even his breath had stopped. I held the kiss for a moment, my cold lips pressed against his warm ones and then nothing... He still hadn't moved. I broke away, lowering myself. His forehead was smooth, his eyes rounded in surprise; looking at my lips... they were still open.
To be completely honest, it wasn't quite the reception I was hoping for. My stomach tightened uncomfortably and for a moment, I felt as though I would never be able to breathe easily again. I was completely shattered and totally embarrassed, but at least we both knew now that...
Before I could so much as think about how blazing my cheeks were becoming, the alarm sounded again and Dumbledore strode past us, his blue robes trailing behind him. The alarm sounded again and another figure advanced on the house, followed by several other witches and wizards. I wasn't sure who any of them were but there was obviously something of import happening. I twisted away from Sirius and followed the figures into the house. Just as I climbed the stone steps, Sirius caught up. He put his large hand around my arm and gently pulled me aside.
