The patrol through Hosu had been uneventful. The number two hero Endeavour was also in the city, interning his son Shoto. Most villains cowered away at the presence of the Flame Hero, so the leader of the Wild Wild Pussycats and her intern had little to do.
Soon though, night would fall and the Hero Killer would emerge. That was all they were there for. Shino and Izuku didn't really care about the patrol side of the visit, their aim was Stain. It was inevitable that Shigaraki would fail to recruit the former vigilante, and that's when Izuku would swoop in. His mother had trusted him with this mission, he wouldn't fail her.
The villain weighed up his options. Stain would be a valuable ally, that was undeniable. But, was it worth the hassle that would come with the death of another UA first year? Security would get tighter. Awareness would get raised. Questions would be asked. Ultimately, he decided to leave it to fate. If someone gets in his way, he deals with it. UA students shouldn't be interfering in the big leagues anyway. Especially not first years.
"Boss, how will we find Stain?"
"We look in alleys. We listen to conversations. We wait for news. Also, try not to let anyone hear you refer to me like that. It'll blow our cover."
"I apologise."
The duo remained silent after that. Whenever they came across another hero, Mandalay would engage them in a short conversation in order to find any info about the hero killer. It was always the same few responses. "No, I don't know anything", "Unfortunately not, hopefully someone catches him soon.", "You don't need to know, leave it to the top dogs.". The last answer made Izuku angry. Not only was a 'Hero' being an arrogant idiot overestimating their own abilities, they were disrespecting and underestimating one of his most trusted subordinates, as well as their fellow hero.
The two decided to speed up their search. They now knew that many heroes in Hosu were searching for Stain. They needed to find him first. Before they could go any further, screams ripped through the night, fires flared up everywhere, civilians began running, and heroes tried to regain control. The source was quickly identified. A trio of Nomu had been released into the city.
"Mandalay, that's our cue. Shigaraki releasing the Nomu into Stains current location means he failed. Stain refused his offer. The Hero Killer is now roaming free again. We must find him."
"Yes, Boss. "
The two began sprinting through the streets of Hosu City, weaving through civilians. The presence of Mandalay meant that no heroes questioned their search. A smaller Nomu ran straight for them, but Izuku simply intercepted and it was destroyed. Mandalay couldn't help but feel confident. Seeing the bioengineered "super weapon" of the League get destroyed in one touch made her laugh to herself. Her boss was brilliant.
A rush of engines followed by a yell of pain alerted the duo. They quickly found Iida laying on the floor of an alley, an ominous figure with a red eye-mask and a serrated katana stood over him.
"You heroes are nothing like the saviours of years ago. You are a disgrace to the world. Coming here claiming to be seeking revenge. Don't make me laugh. A child like you could never beat me. Besides, heroes don't kill."
Stain looked up from Iida's wounded form and over to Izuku and Mandalay, who had just entered the alley.
"More heroes come to stop me. And another UA student. I'm insulted."
"We're not here to fight you, Stain. We come with an offer."
"An offer? Why would heroes make an offer to me? You trying to convince me to go to prison or something?"
"No. We know that you refused to join the league, so we decided to try to succeed where they failed."
"What are you talking about?"
"The heroes know me as Izuku Kobayashi, the Construct Hero: Alchemist. But in reality, I am Izuku Midoriya. The world calls me Overhaul, the second in command of the Shie Hassaikai, and son of the most powerful woman in Japan's criminal underworld."
Iida, who was still on the floor, became stiff. A look of shock, betrayal, disbelief, and anger settled on his face.
"K-Kobayashi? You're a villain. H-How could you?"
"Oh, you're still alive? I thought Stain killed you by now. Yes, everything you just heard is true. I was never a hero." He walked over to the still grounded Iida, crouching by his side. "If you are the example of the next generation of heroes, my job has become a whole lot easier. Farewell, micro-Ingenium."
Izuku gripped Iida's neck, and the hero burst. Blood and flesh painted the walls, coating the incapacitated Native with the guts of a fool.
"Now that he's been dealt with, let's get down to business."
"Right. You say you want to succeed where the League failed? So go on, convince me."
"What is their to convince you about? You know what we stand for. We know what you stand for. We have both seen each other in action, and seen the strength behind our convictions. No amount of talk now will portray any more than has already been seen. We in the Shie Hassaikai exist to protect people who have no involvement in the goings on of our side of the world. The people who are truly innocent. You wish to eradicate the fake heroes. The ones who cause harm to innocents. The ones who are in the hero game for money, for fame. That is a part of our goal. Joining us can give you access to many great things. Funding. Protection. Strategy. Back up. Publicity. All of this and more, Stain. You no longer have to lead a life full of running, checking over your shoulder, and barely scraping by on scraps of food. Join us, Hero Killer. I promise we will welcome you. We never betray or abandon one of our own."
Stain pondered. The young man in front of him had made an offer many times more convincing than the man-child in charge of the league. Everything he said made Stain like the idea more.
"Very well, Overhaul. You have yourself a new ally. I admire your conviction and will. When I compare you to the League, you have a much clearer aim. We share many ideals. I'll join your organisation. I've been a lone wolf ever since I can remember. Maybe working with you will be a welcomed change. Besides, I know of a few people who would come to you if I was known to be a member of your organisation. I have heard of a serial killer with blue flames operating under my banner. He could be an asset, if given the kind of speech you gave me just now. I accept your offer, Boss."
"Good. I'm glad. We need to be quick, heroes could come along any second now. I can have a subordinate come and take you to the main base, where my mother, sister and I live and operate. Or you can contact us later, once you've gathered anything you need and tied up any loose ends, and we can take you there then."
"I have nothing to get, I can come to you now."
"Very well. Make your way to the location on this paper." He wrote a location onto a sheet of paper from a small notebook, and handed it to Stain. "Go there, and a trusted subordinate of mine will meet you. He goes by Chronostasis. You'll be escorted to the actual base by him. A pleasure to have you on board, Stain."
"Chizome Akaguro. That's my real name. Since you're my new boss, you might as well know it."
"I see. Well then, you shall still go by the alias Stain, but we will know you as Akaguro. Heroes are not too far away. Don't get caught."
Stain nodded, and fled with awe inspiring agility. Izuku and Mandalay left the alley and found another secluded place. Izuku pulled out his phone and dialled a number.
"Hello mother. It is done. He has agreed to join us."
"Very good, Izuku. I knew I could rely on you for this. Did anyone see you?"
"Only a classmate. Ingenium's brother. But I disposed of him. Stain already injured him, so I just had to use my quirk on him."
"Excellent. Return to the Pussycats' HQ with Sosaki. Continue your internship there, and await further instruction."
"Yes mother."
The call ends and the duo return to the agency, the Hosu situation having been long since dealt with. The League of Villains no further in their plans, and the Shie Hassaikai with one new member, and the prospect of many more with the influence of Stain.
