Best in show

Settling in

After we had got out the shop and were walking down the pavement,I spotted a bird.a black bird with a yellow beak.I've always loved chasing things and birds are the hardest to chase because they fly,and I can't fly.but sometimes I find myself imagining what it would be like to spread a pair of wings and soar way up high in the sky away from all your troubles.i didn't chase the bird because I must show Evie that I can behave and that I'm not a "bad dog" which the man with the dribbly bulldog once told me when I barked at his dog.i jumped into the boot of the car and at first I was chilling and lazing about on the blanket,but then I popped my head up to say hello to Evie and she made a massive fuss of me and she kept smiling and stroking me. I like being stroked,I like this family,most of all I like Evie though,she's my owner now and I'm so glad it's Evie and not anyone else.Evie and her parents were talking,then I saw another dog out on a walk and I jumped over the back seats to see it more clearly,Evie started laughing and rolled down the window down so I could see it and get some fresh air.then Evie's mum said that we need to get one of them barriers that stop dogs from climbing over the back seats.so I made the most the sitting on the back seats because I don't think I'm going to be allowed to sit on them again.the sun had gone down and the starlit sky shone down on us,I often dream of the stars,I think stars are our ancestors and relatives,mother told me that,the brightest star in the sky is grandma,she died a well know champion.she even went to Crufts once,though I never met grandma or never been to Crufts,I can imagine what the atmosphere is like,i want to go to Crufts one day.i fell asleep dreaming of winning at a dog show,I had my head resting on Evie's lap.Ellie used to love it when me and mother used to do that,sleep on her lap.
When I was woken up,I realised that I was at my new home,I took in my surroundings,there was a nicely trimmed lawn and a yard and I even saw some chickens and a few ponies.this place looks great,and there's loads of space to run about too. When Evie led me inside,I was greeted by the smell of their tea and welcomed by the warmth of the glow coming off the fire,they put my new bed in the living room away from the fire,their living room has pale wooden floorboards and a black leather sofa and matching leather armchairs ,the cream coloured wall was covered flatscreen TV,at night with the main lights turned off and the lamp and fire on,it gave a cosy home-like feel.the kitchen floor has shiny black tiles on the floor and a white wooden table with white wooden seats,the counters were also black with white marble on top.then I went into another room whilst everyone was in packing,this room smelt of books,it had a computer and lots of shelfs with files on,the carpet was navy blue and the walls were a paler blue with pictures hung up.i think that room is an office.evie promised me that we will be best friends for ever,and that she'll always be there for me and never abandon me,I know she'll never leave me,we're gonna be together for ever and ever now.i can trust her,I only trust a few people and she's one of them. Evie disappeared up some rectangle things that went upwards,mother had once told me that they were called stairs.i tried to follow her up the stairs but I keep falling down,so I shouted "Evie please let me upstairs,I want to get to youuuuu" Evie only heard that as a whine though,mother told me that humans don't understand dog language very well so we need to express our feelings and try and show them what we want.im sure she'll get the idea soon.
