Dublin gave a huff as she placed her elbow on the table, just pushing the food around on her plate. Fish and chips. One of her favorite meals, but tonight?
It was a hard day at work. A new job too, in a brand new city. Being a paramedic in a very small town, in a completely different country was difficult. But now being a medic in New York? Yeah it was a culture shock. "What's got our Dubs so down in the dumps?" A jovial, deep Irish brogue accent sounded from behind her shoulder. A chuckle on said voice. "Yeah, and who's ass do we have to kick?" The other voice came.
The McManus Brothers. How she loved them and hated them at the same time.
Connor and Murphy McManus. Her best friends who protected her like family. Always making sure her Irish eyes were always smiling.
They met when she was in school in Ireland. Her home away from home. And what was supposed to be just a semester in Ireland turned into a dream with 5 years of schooling; what with her classes and then emergency services training and job. She absolutely loved being a paramedic. Originally she wanted to be a Nurse. Her grandmother was a Nurse and taught her things as she grew up.
"Nurses always know more than those damn Doctors."
And her grandmother was right. But Dublin loved being a first responder. She loved helping those in need when they absolutely needed it. It only took that one second between life and death. So she became a paramedic.
"Why so glum, Dubs?" Connor smiled and gave her a wink, those beautiful blue eyes sparkling. His dirty blonde, short hair, greasy from the sweat of working a fast and busy happy hour.
"Yeah, seriously? Who do we have to kill." Murphy was Connor's brother. Fraternal twins, they looked nothing alike but had the same personality.
She had met them on one of her first nights as a full blown student, a newly indoctrinated citizen with duel Irish and American citizenship into her 2nd year of schooling.
"What's a pretty thing like you doing in a-" She looked at the brown haired man taking his place on the bar stool next her. All swagger and arrogance. A gleam in his eyes.
"I'm gonna stop you right there." Her New York accent, Brooklyn, was out in full force. "I am just here for a drink. I've had a long day and I don't want any bullshit."
The man cocked an eyebrow and gave a chuckle. "Straight to the point! I'm Murphy." He held out his hand and she gave a scoff, rolling her eyes. Picking up her glass again to take a sip, he gestured towards the bartender. "2 more." She choked on the last of her drink as she gave a laugh. Placing her glass back on the bar top, she gave him a playful smirk. "You don't take a not so subtle hint, so you?"
Now 3 glasses of Whiskey were placed in front of her as she glanced between the two men, a blond haired gentlemen smiling at her from the barstool on the other side. "Nope." Murphy gave a chuckle and down the glass. "We own this bar. Planning on opening one in New York soon. We love the business but wanna head to the States. This is my brother Connor. And, you are...?"
"Dubs!" She heard as the door open. She couldn't help but notice as Connor rolled his eyes. "I was kinda hopin' it'd just be you and May..."
Connor had always had a small, WELL, rather a very LARGE crush on Aunt May. He could never hide his feelings very well.
"Sorry, babe. Guess it's family night." She hopped off the stool and rushed over to her little brother. Not so little anymore. He was a senior in high school while she was 33. A huge age gap but she would protect her baby brother with her life. But she was also so close to her Aunt it was scary.
