"Bella, come away from the window," Gina says,"He'll be here soon."
Nic keeps her face pressed against the cool glass and groans,"Gina, you said that twenty minutes ago and he still isn't here."
"Well, fogging up my nice window isn't gonna get Sam here any quicker. Why don't ya sit down and watch TV for a bit?"
"Ughhh this sucks," Nic whines, turning away from the window. She drags herself towards the couch and dramatically throws herself face down onto it.
Gina shakes her head and tries to keep from smiling,"You're being a bit dramatic, don't ya think?"
Nic lifts her head from the couch and turns her eyes on Gina,"No, Gina, I don't think so. I'm dying of boredom right now, and dying is a very dramatic thing."
This time Gina couldn't stop herself from laughing. Nic rolls her eyes and face plants into the couch again.
The knock comes shortly after. Nic leaps from the couch and runs full speed to open the door. She throws it open with so much force that it bangs into the wall behind it, leaving a small dent in the wall.
"Isabella, careful with the door!" Gina scolds, walking over to inspect the damage.
"Where have you been?" Nic asks, annoyance evident in her tone.
Sam stands on the other side of the door, still shocked by how much has just happened in such a short period of time.
"I-I got stuck in traffic."
Nic's eyes narrow,"What traffic? There's no traffic out here. Even I know that."
"Quit interrogating him," Gina says sternly,"why don't ya come inside, Sam."
Nic turns to Gina, distressed,"But Gina! We gotta go! I'm gonna go see his horses today, remember?"
Sam steps inside and closes the door behind him. He doesn't miss the glare that Nic shoots him.
"Knock it off," Gina tells her, hands on hips,"the horses aren't going anywhere."
Nic huffs, crosses her arms, and plops down on the couch. She watches as Gina grabs a few chocolate chip cookies from the cooling rack, puts them on a plate, and hands them to Sam. He immediately starts to eat them greedily, wiping the crumbs from his mouth with the back of his hand. Nic smirks and realizes he reminds her of Stan.
She doesn't feel like pouting anymore, so she gets up and goes to sit at the table with Sam and Gina. Nic feels Gina's warm smile before she sees it. Sure enough, when she turns to look, Gina is smiling at her.
"What?" Nic asks.
"Nothing, darlin'."
What Gina doesn't tell her daughter is that she sees her growth. She sees that her daughter is starting to understand that throwing fits will get her nowhere. And Gina's proud of her for it.
"Well," Sam says once the cookies are long gone from his plate,"guess I better get this girl to the ranch before she drives there herself."
Nic jumps from her seat and rushes to the door, grinning wildly.
"That would probably be best," Gina jokes. She hugs Sam and then walks over to Nic, getting down to eye level with her,"You be good, ya hear me?"
Nic rolls her eyes and smirks,"I hear you."
"I mean it, Bella," Gina continues,"Sam's in charge which means ya listen to everything he tells you. If he drops ya off and says you didn't listen, you'll be in trouble."
"Okay, I'll be good," Nic says, just waiting for the conversation to be over.
"You better," Gina says, standing back up.
