I wake up to Effie and Haymitch pounding on my door. "Kid, time to get up!" Haymitch says as I get up. I remember that I need, what Effie calls, 'training' to know how to conduct myself in my interviews. Effie teaches me how to talk in the interview and to walk in high heels. Haymitch teaches me how to answer questions. "Ok, Sweetheart, you're young, you got a lot of energy, I can see that." He starts. "That's a bad thing, isn't it?" I say hanging my head. "No, it's an advantage. You can come off as a little girl that just wants to get home to your family. You're the youngest tribute this year." He says. "I'm not use to compliments, I'm use to being criticized for everything I do." I say looking at him. "Lilly, Sweetheart, you are amazing, you got a 10 for goodness sakes!" He says holding my hand. "You don't understand, my parents hated me for the longest time. They were on the older side when I was born, I had a brother who was 20 years older than me, and when I was 10, there was a mine accident, he didn't make it. My parents blamed me for it." I say. "Hey, it's ok." He says giving me a hug, which was surprising because he normally shows no emotion. I hug him back and let out a sigh. "Thank you Haymitch." I say letting go. "Of course Sweetheart." He says. Effie comes in and tells me that I have to get ready for the interviews.
(Time Skip)
I am dressed in a pink, gold and black dress. I forgot that I was wearing my mom's neckless and I think it adds a little bit of home to it. When they call my name for my intervew I am nervus. 'Now Lilly, a 10?! That is amazing!" Ceaser Flickerman says looking at me. "Well I have to agree, but, I don't think it's that good." I reply with a laugh. "What do you mean?! You are amazing!" He says. "I don't know. I mean, I'm only 12." I laugh. "Well I think you have a fighting chance. Now tell me about your family?" He says. "Well my parents had me later in life and my brother died in the mines. My parents hated me and blamed me." I say sadly. "Well that's a shame. I think you had nothing to do with it." He says pretending to frown. I look into the audience and see Haymitch he gave me a look that said 'Egg it on, give them the sob story.' so I do. "I know, its ok though." I say with a smile. "Now do you have any spesial skills that will help you in the arena?" He asks. "Well, I can't say much but, I am the smallest, and I can climb and run fast. I can also fight well. And I know how to......." I trail off because I know I was about to say too much. "Well, you'll see what I can do soon enough." I chuckle. The bell sounds and Ceaser gets up. I stand also. "That's all the time we have. Lilly McGrady, tribute from district 12!" He says as I leave. After I get off the stage I run to Haymich. "You did great Sweetheart." He says with a chickle. "Thank you." I say hugging him. He hugs me back and I smile. 'This is the closest to a dad I have gotten in a long time' I think. We let go and Effie comes over and talks to me. "You did wonderful!" She says. "Thank you Effie." I giggles. Harry does his interview and we are off to bed, the games start tomorrow.
