It is a dreary day with very harsh winds and thick, grey clouds that cover the sun. The second battle of Ayro has finally come, and this time the republic has the upper hand. The dark deciple Weiyun recently moved into a fortress called Greene tower, the base from which the separatists won the first battle of Ayro. With Weiyun cornered, the Jedi can capture her and strike a deadly blow against the separatists' Dofom campaign. On top of that, the Dofomians which support the republic managed to momentarily cut the separatists off from Ayro through some of their own internal struggles and are even considering the prospect of taking up arms with the republic themselves, though they won't be joining the war today, because civil conflict is now inevitable for them. The separatists and the republic alike were both hoping that the Dofomians would not escalate to violence among themselves and physically take a side on the battlefield, because that would mean more destruction to the planet. And while joining the fight has its merits for the Dofomians, such as ending the war sooner, for some, it is also a religious duty. Some Dofomians have really taken the flying Morai mantle Daliss has adopted very seriously, and there are some who believe that she is the reincarnation of Morai, even though she isn't a Dofomian. That puts much more pressure on Daliss than she imagined, because if Dofomians take up arms and die, she'll feel responsible...With the help of the Dofomians temporarily cutting the separatists off from Ayro, the bomber assault on the trenches went much better than expected. The air assault forces tore through through them and blasted everything to bits. Blowing apart over a thousand B1 battle droids, several reconnaissance squads and all other resources the separatists had set up in the checkpoint.
Meanwhile, the battle of Greene tower has been waging for several hours. Daliss is on the ground with Wac and the rest of the diamond squad, fighting their way through the separatist defenses. Greene tower is another old Dofomian fortress - this one was converted into a mining facility long ago, but only to be remade into an outpost for war with trenches surrounding it. The tower itself is more of a gigantic complex, resembling a hybrid between an industrial factory and a war fortress, with a huge wall encompassing it. It is being defended by no small number of B2 battle droids as well as the advanced B2-DT1s, which is slowing down the republic assault. The Jedi master who led Daliss' knighting ceremony, Sana Dei is here though, and a knight she trained is there as well; a human Jedi named Icarus. He and Daliss are working together to capture a small watchtower guarding the eastern flank of Greene tower while Sana, Todak and Qerreth lead the main assault. Since the assault on the trenches went so well, the forces in that area will be able to provide some extra firepower after fully securing the area. This mission is shaping up to look like another victory, but with the B2-DT1s it will be an uphill battle. The Jedi knight Icarus is a dashing young man with golden hair and light colored Jedi attire. Though, he is quickly getting muddy and covered in ash just like everyone else. He and Daliss work very well together, with Icarus specializing in a more defensive style and Daliss specializing in offense. Together they secure the outpost with Wac, and Icarus turns on his comm to update the other Jedi from the top of the tower.
"Master, the outpost is secure." He says in a stoic tone. "Daliss and I will advance on the rendezvous.""Very good my apprentice." Sana answered back sounding distressed, the communication buffers. "Move quickly - something - has come up - hurry!"
"I've got a bad feeling about this..." Wac says putting his helmet on. "You two head out, I'll take over from here."
Sì, take care, captain." Daliss says, trying to sound professional in front of the other Jedi. "Icarus, I am ready to head out if you are."
He nods and the two move out, taking a small detachment of troops while Wac stays behind to further secure the area with some artillery that's heading in. With the outpost captured the republic secured a good section of ground to move across the battlefield through the trenches around Greene tower. There were still some stragglers left behind in the trenches but they were dealt with quickly. With Icarus leading the way, he, Daliss and her troops group up with the raging hawks and find Qerreth taking cover behind a crashed droid gunship, it's large, saucer-shaped body sticking out of the ground at an angle with the Jedi and some troops underneath.
"I'm glad you're here, Daliss." Qerreth said, looking and sounding roughed up. "There was far more droids than expected. They must have seen this attack coming and called for reinforcements.""What is the plan?" Daliss asked.
Daliss and Icarus huddle with Qerreth and some troops from both the yellow raging hawks and the purple diamond squad. Qerreth pulls out a holomap and shows everyone the wall that they're only about 100 meters away from, but there is a bulky force of tanks, B2-DT1s and regular B2s standing in the way, poised to defend their fortress.
"Our assault on the trenches was completed much sooner than expected," Qerreth begins, explaining things quickly. "So those air forces will be able to assist us in this next push. But we can't wait too long for them to arrive because the separatists are pushing us out. That's where we Jedi come in..."Following closely behind Qerreth, Daliss and Icarus make their way across the battlefield to find Todak and Sana. Together, the five Jedi and a small squad of troops and the diamond squad commander will storm Greene tower's walls and take out the anti air defenses, giving the bombers from the trench assault an opening to attack the separatist reinforcements defending the gate, allowing Greene tower to be captured by the republic. The Jedi will have to go fast though, or else the aerial reinforcements won't be able to attack the extra surplus of B2 firepower. Daliss followed the other four Jedi through the trenches, feeling like the rookie. And while that's certainly what she is, it still makes her a little nervous to do a good job on this important mission. They're going to scale the wall of Greene tower and hopefully get rid of the anti air defenses quickly. Once they reach the base of the wall, it seems much bigger to Daliss. It is apparently 500 feet tall, which looks absolutely colossal to the tiny orange Jedi. They use grapple guns that fire the anchor high up, and then they all begin the ascent. They scale the wall very fast, trying to go as quickly as possible, and in a few minutes they reach the top.
The wall looked big from the base, but on top, with Greene tower looming far above it, everything below looks even smaller. Daliss can see most of the battle from the top, and it doesn't seem so big.
The walls were guarded by a large number of B1 battle droids, which went down quickly against the five Jedi and the clone trooper detachment. The troopers start to set detonators on the anti air weapons while the Jedi cover them from the defenses of Greene, who have caught onto the plan and are turning up the heat. Daliss continues to defend and destroy the battle droids, feeling unimpressive compared to the others. Todak and Sana look like a maelstrom of lightsaber slashes, and Qerreth and Icarus are both incredibly precise and have expertise in their techniques. And while Daliss is indeed a very strong and talented Jedi by her own right, she still feels misplaced among these other much more talented fighters.
The first anti air cannon blows, but it was much sooner than expected and multiple clone troopers were not clear of the explosion and perished in the blast. Daliss raised her arms to protect herself from the sudden explosion that came with no warning, and then turns to look at the destroyed cannon, covered in smoke. A red lightsaber ignites in the smoke, and the heavy winds blow away the smoke to reveal Weiyun. Daliss gets ready to fight her, but Todak suddenly steps in front of the young knight.
"I will handle this." He says to Daliss, keeping his eyes on his former apprentice. "You finish the mission with the rest of the team..."Daliss understands, and hurries off to go help defend the troops so they can eliminate the rest of the anti air cannons. She understands that that is Todak's fight. Weiyun was his padawan and Daliss understands that Todak feels like he's responsible for her turning to the dark side.
