"hey what's up?" i asked. brooks explained that my mom had a heart attack and didn't make it. i dropped my phone, in shock. i completely broke now. i fell to my knees. i screamed. crying i could hardly get a word out. i went straight back to the city. tears were still forming. i couldn't stop. my best friend died. i never even got to say goodbye. it's just not fair. i got to my house, and saw my brother on the couch. just sitting there. not saying a word. he saw me. i ran to him. we hugged. i've never had a better hug. all we had was each other. my dad was upstairs in his study brooks explained and hasn't moved since we found out. "i just can't believe it. she's gone." brooks said. "i can't even form the words." i said. "i'm really fucking hungry." brooks said. "i'll go get anything. i need fresh air." i replied. "i want hui." brooks said. it was mom's favorite chinese restaurant. "ask dad what he wants before you order. and you know my usal." i said. "do you want me to pay?" brooks offered. "don't worry about it." i said. i got out of the lobby of my penthouse, with my five dogs. and ten minutes later i saw nate on the sidewalk with flowers. "i was about to bring these over. oh my god aspen i'm so sorry." nate said, hugging me. i hugged him back. "thank you. but i have to go get something for my brother." i said. "do you want me to go with you?" nate offered. "no i need to be alone." i said. "okay. call me if you need anything." nate offered. "thank you." i said, walking away. two seconds later i was swarmed with paparazzi. "is that your ex boyfriend?" one yelled. "how's harry?" one screamed.  i could feel my dogs getting stressed out. but nate ran over and told the paparazzi to back off. "thank you." i whispered, walking away.
