It's now been four days since Maxus awakened again. Lydia continues to train the other mages. I train Lydia myself afterward. Then after that, I train myself. The mages are tense, I can feel it every time I walk through the streets. They know what approaches, yet they continue to rebuild their ruined city. It was coming back together, however, it likely wouldn't be fully repaired when Maxus returned.
Lydia stumbles back and falls from a punch to the shoulder. I was training her personally, showing Lydia her own openings. She wasn't exactly taking kindly to being knocked down over and over. Yet every time she got up with a new wave of energy.
"Again," she said, climbing to her feet. I did not respond and tightened my fist for another round.
Lydia starts by flying towards me with two jagged and sharp shards of ice coming at me like pincers. She's been trying to use the fact I have one arm to her advantage. Something I've been exploiting but also learning for myself from.
I swipe across the air, a wave of fire bursting out from my arm. It melts the ice, but Lydia floats right over. She comes down with a kick towards my forehead. I block the kick with my forearm, then grab her ankle. I shift and swing her by her leg down toward the ground. She puts her hands out and catches herself before smacking her forehead against the ground. She twists her hips and kicks with her other leg towards my chest. I let go of her leg and shift off to the side away from the kick.
I swing my leg up toward her stomach as she swings her leg for my neck. She grabs my leg by the ankle, one hand still on the ground for balance, I block her leg before she can hit me. She pulls my leg forward as she spirals over me and behind me. I drop into the splits from her yanking my leg as she lands on her feet. She shoots a blast of wind at my back as a rock comes between us. I spring up to my feet. The rock comes down and she launches into a barrage of punches. I could feel her energy getting colder, any second now she was going to get that rush of energy.
Lydia spins and an ice hammer forms in her hands. I duck under the hammer and block the second and it shatters across my arm. She swings the other at my waist and I pull my hips away to avoid it. She spins and swings at my head and I arch my back, the hammer a mere inch from my nose. She swings her other hammer down towards me and I grab her wrist. I pull her forward, kick her feet from under her, and throw her a few feet away. Her cold energy falters.
"Not bad," I told her, she almost got me to power up myself there. She huffs.
"Still not good enough." She says rising to a knee, but not standing. She's had enough for a day.
"You're still young, you get tunnel vision. You need to be able to use magic more in the middle of combos. It'll make you less predictable. However, your hand-to-hand is really growing." Hand to hand wouldn't save her life, not against Maxus, and not against me.
"Maxus doesn't care if I'm young or old. He'll kill me all the same." Lydia finally decides to stand.
"Maybe so, but you won't be the only one fighting." I'll be there and you likely won't even get the chance.
"Still even if..." Lydia's thoughts trail off for a moment and she looks off in the distance. I look at her confused, then look out, expecting to see Maxus flying over the island again. Suddenly Lydia shoots up into the sky over the mainland and is out of sight nearly instantly. I feel towards the island, the direction she's going, what else is along her path?
"Oh, that could be interesting," I say as I come to a realization. Instead of flying to her right away, I flew to Zulu to inform him.
"Diane! Good to see you. Where has Lydia gone?" He likely felt her energy spiral and then leave the island.
