Cody groaned as his comm started blaring during his sleep cycle. He reached over, grabbing it to see who wanted to go out of an airlock.
It was his squad chat, Fox ringing.

Sitting up, he sighed before activating the comm. "What do you want?"

"Well, you're grumpy," Fox said.

"I'm on my way back from a campaign, sleeping when you decided to comm," Cody growled.

"Why did you ring?" Wolfie asked.

"I was also sleeping," Rex muttered.

"We will all be on Coruscant soon, and it's about time that I beat you all in a race," Fox said.

Cody groaned as the rest of the squad broke into similar groans.

-----

Cody shifted, happy they decided not to race in armour again. They'd gathered a large group of vode already, and he could see that at least twenty were videoing - including Cam. He just hoped he didn't lose too badly.

"On your marks," Thorn said, watching as all the different Commanders shifted, "get set, race!"

Cody launched himself forwards, putting as much as he could into it. He continued before skidding to a stop. He turned, looking behind him to see that Fox was only halfway and the others further yet.

He waited, pulling in deep breaths of air as the others finished. "What happened?" He asked, noticing that everyone was silent and staring at him.

"What the kriff was that?!"

"Like some kriffing Jetii!"

Cody frowned at Wolfie and Rex. "I was just running like normal."

"What they mean, Dear Commander," Obi-Wan said, noticing half the vode around him jumping in surprise, "is that you could probably keep pace with me."

Cody sighed. "Book, is there anything Tooka related that could explain?"

"Tookas have a massive amount of flexibility, which helps massively increase their sprinting speed," Book grinned, "and your shoulders already proved that you have this flexibility."

Cody shook his head, "at least something good came out of the changes."

"Sirs! You should race!" Wooley shouted, "see whether Cody can keep pace with a Jetii!"

-----

Cody sighed, shaking his head as he stared at the longer race length. "Why is this going ahead?"

Obi-Wan chuckled, shrugging his shoulders. "It's keeping the vode amused."

Cody sighed again. "Our life has become amusement for the vode."

"You've got to admit at least some of this is funny?" Obi-Wan said.

"Like being captured by Ventress?" Cody asked, "because the Tooka wanted to play with a butterfly?"

Obi-Wan frowned, "that was a bad example."

"The mouse droids want us dead."

Obi-Wan rolled his eyes, "again, bad example."

"Sirs, can we race first, then bicker?"

Cody scanned the crowd, seeing it was Wooley again. Shaking his head, he sighed. "I hope you've not been betting on this."

Wooley grinned, "of course not, sir!"

Cody rolled his eyes; the vod'ika was undoubtedly lying.

"On your marks, get set!" Fox said, raising his arms, "race!"

Both Cody and Obi-Wan launched themselves forwards.

The vode cheered as they watched the Marshal Commander pull ahead of the High General.

"They've reached the quarter-mile line; the Commander is ahead!"

Cody felt his breath come harder, a heavy ache in his muscles. Glancing to the side, he saw that Obi-Wan was catching on to him quick.

Obi-Wan grinned, overtaking Cody halfway between the two lines. He smiled as he crossed the finish line, skidding to a stop and watching as Cody approached the finish line.
Obi-Wan only just managed to catch Cody before he fell over.

"Everything aches," Cody muttered, leaning into Obi-Wan's hold.

"Sir?"

"Just need a moment to catch my breath, that's all, Wooley," Cody said, pushing himself up onto shakey legs, grateful when he felt Obi-Wan subtly support him with The Force. "Book?"

"Tooka's can only sprint for about 0.28 miles; you were pushing it doing that and the race beforehand," Book shrugged, "don't get me wrong, you can run for miles, but a quarter-mile sprint will shatter you completely."

"Well that's just great," Cody muttered.
