Hallie Mount, Younger Sister of Chelsea Superstar, Mason Mount, Shining Bright for Both Chelsea and the Lionesses
Hallie Mount, the younger sister of one of England's most dominant midfielders, Mason Mount, is running rampant in the Women's Super League. Mount, who has started all games for Chelsea so far this season, has picked up assists, proving crucial within her team's backline as well.
Many question how Chelsea would fare after the sudden death of their beloved defender, Juliette Walsh, who passed away over the summer break in Sydney, after the World Cup. Juliette, who was a pivotal player within the Chelsea team for the past three seasons, was often considered to be the best left back in the world. And her sudden passing left a huge gap for the Chelsea team to fill.
However, Hallie Mount made her presence clear. Mount, who is only 19 years old, was given a contract at the start of the season, as an immediate replacement player for Walsh, and has been one of Chelsea's most important players so far.
It was often asked how much pressure would be on Mount to fill in the seemingly large gap. However, no one can deny that Mount as come to play.
It wasn't just Chelsea who needed to find a new starting left back, it was the Lionesses as well. Over the past 8 years, Walsh played in every one of England's major tournaments, including the 2015, 2019 and 2023 World Cups, the Euros in 2017 and 2022, as well as the Great Britain team at the Olympics. In all these tournaments, besides the 2015 World Cup, Walsh was the go-to player for that left back position.
Now, with the position wide open for the Lionesses, Mount seized her chance once more. Mount played both of England's friendlies in Australia over the international break, scoring her first senior team goal in the process. This goal proved pivotal, as it was the equaliser for the first game against a dominant Australian side, who had just come off the back of a World Cup trophy, with players such as Ballon D'or Winner India Harrison, and Australian captain, Sam Kerr.
Mount's addition to both Chelsea and the Lionesses is proving an immense triumph, with the young teenager proving to many why age does not define success.
Hallie's POV
"You seen this?" Mason asked me, showing me the phone as he was over at my apartment.
"Is it good or bad?" I asked him.
"Good, I think," he answered, passing me the phone. I read the article, and something about it twinged my heart. It was praising me, in a weird way, but it wasn't as if I was doing any of this on purpose. I wasn't trying to 'seize this opportunity'. I was just being me. I was just being Hallie.
"Didn't realise that goal was a big deal," I added, laughing, passing him the phone back.
"You scored on your debut," he answered, "and against Australia's defence too."
"Against Indi you mean," I chuckled to him, "kind of weird to see you two become such good friends. Like, you guys seem to be very close." He chuckled a nervous laugh, before turning away.
"As you said before," Mason started, "she's nice. Too nice, even. I thought it would be good to have a girl who is a friend."
"Okay," I replied, unconvinced, "if you say so. But to me, it seems you may have a little crush on her."
"A crush? Please." I once again, was not convinced.
"Well, sorry to break it to you Mase, but I'm pretty sure she is gay, so that's not going to work out for you."
"Why do you say that?" He asked me.
"Well, she has had a girlfriend the past few years, and is pretty open about that stuff."
