IT IS SAID that a mother's instinct immediately kicks in the moment one gives birth to their child. But that was not the case for Alicent Hightower.

The moment her eyes laid on the babe, all she could feel was utter disgust. For she did not birth a Targaryen like she had with Aegon.

No, she birthed a Hightower. The dark locks of the babe made Alicent want to gouge her eyes out.

How could this happen? How could she birth a Hightower when she was meant to birth a Targaryen?

All Alicent could ponder about was what the king would think when he laid eyes on the babe with dark locks.

But to the surprise of Alicent, Viserys was happy to see his healthy baby girl in the arms of the maester.

His love for his daughter only solidified when he held her in his arms the first time.

The feeling of warmness and tranquility filled his entire body. A feeling he had not felt since the birth of his first child, Rhaenyra.

"My sweet Rhaella." He muttered as he smiled down at the babe cradled in his arms.

He was so entranced in his newly birthed daughter that he didn't notice the frown on his lady wife's face as she watched her King become fully entranced in the babe, something he hadn't done with Aegon.

Rage filled her veins as she watched the attention Rhaella was receiving, attention that Aegon never received.

How could Viserys love a child that didn't resemble the Targaryen name?

How could Viserys love Rhaella over his first born son? It didn't make sense to Alicent. None of it did.

But Alicent vowed to never show the babe a slither of love because deep down Alicent could see herself in the child and she resented her for it.

"I sat and watched my mother favor my younger siblings over me my entire childhood and now she will sit and watch as I choose Rhaenyra over her."
