Full moon

Hermione's POV

"It's a long story that we don't have time for, now go!" I yelled as the boys ran into the other room.

As Sirius and James turned into their animagi forms (a big black dog and a stag), I realized that it was time. The moon was up.

I quickly shifted to my own animagus form (a wolf, ironically) and I watched the painful transformation begin. It always hurt to see my best friend in so much pain. It always made me feel helpless, because all I wanted to do was help her, make her pain stop. Even if she said she was used to it.

And suddenly, it was over.

After hearing two wolf howls, I looked into Lyla's eyes. They always turned from ocean blue to ivy green when she was transformed.

'Mia?' She thought to me. (Oh yeah, forgot to mention, we can telepathicly communicate because we are linked with a special bond, or so the book on the relationship between animagi and werewolves state.

'Ly, thank god! I'm always worried if the potion will work. Not that I don't like your wolf side or anything. But I prefer you.' I think to her as we rub heads and curl up together.

'Hey, it looks like it worked for Remus too.' Ly thought to me as she nodded in his direction.

'Good good. So, can we do our questions thing or are you tired?' I thought, recieving a chuckle from Ly.

'Of course we can do our thing. I do believe it's your turn to ask. Go on, what do you want to know?' Ly asked.

'Tell me more about Luna.' I thought. I knew Luna was Ly's world.

'Oof, where do I begin? Ummmm....Oh, I got something! So when I was four and Luna was three, Dad took us to a Magizoo for my birthday and Luna loved the Nifflers. She found them absolutely adorable. So when we were going to move on, Luna refused and said that she wanted to stay with the Nifflers, and she reached her hand through the glass-magically reinforced glass, mind you-and took one of the babies out. It was her first accidental magic.' Ly thought.

'Ok, your turn.' I thought with a smile (or as much as a smile that I could manage with a wolf face).

'Tell me more about Amara.' Ly asked, talking about my younger sister who was two years younger than us.

'Amara...hmmmmmmm....ok, this is funny. So she was 7 and I was 9, and we were going to her parent-teacher conference. She really didn't want to go, but mum forced her too. So, when we arrived, the teacher took one look at my sister, and fainted. Like, properly in a dead faint. The teaching assistant came over to us, saw Amara, and started shaking slightly. She told Amara to go next door while the grownups talked, but when Amara scowled, she kinda recoiled? I don't know how to explain it. So, we were talking, and apparently when one of her teaching assistants had made Amara mad, her hair turned bright green and her skin bright blue with boils. That was Amara's first accidental magic that I know off.' I thought as Ly was rolling around on the floor, laughing.

Damn, she's so cute when she laughs.

We talked for hours that seemed like minutes. We always did this question thing, because it would distract Ly from hurting herself or others. Keep her mind preoccupied, y'know? It took a while for us to figure that out. The first full moon I found out about, while I was still working on becoming an animagi, was horrific; Lyla had to fight with all her willpower not to kill me or turn me to a werewolf. The tears were pouring down her face as she constantly scratched herself - I can't even think about it. It still haunts me.

As the sun began to rise and Ly turned back (alongside Remus), the last batch of us were escorted into the room by Harry and Madeline. Everyone looked an absolute state. At long last, it was time.
