Chapter 22

Arcturus

I look over the letter Carina sent about her sorting. We had come up with a charm that hid the true message just in case someone got ahold of her mail. When I read of her house, I am proud, but also concerned. The legend of the house of Hogwarts said that only a student who is so balanced in all the houses that it would be a disservice to put them in just one will be chosen for that house. Her claim to the title of being the first student will cause many to watch her, but I can see the benefit. She will have access to all the common rooms, and many will look to her to set an example for how Hogwarts is ran.

"Do you think she will be alright. Dumbledore and Voldemort already watch her. This will make her a larger target." Orion says.

"She claims Hogwarts itself felt she needed to be in that house. From what she says the castle knows who she is and is willing to help. If that is the case, even Dumbledore will be unable to hurt her within her walls." I explain.

"The ladies are going to be all over this." Walburga sighs.

"She could be considered a prodigy. While it puts her in the spotlight it also gives her sway. No matter how powerful Dumbledore or Voldemort are, they will not be able to claim to having Hogwarts herself behind them. Many families will be more inclined to support her if she plays her cards right." Lord Winters points out.

"I wrote her stating that she shouldn't hide how talented she is. If she must be in the spotlight, then it works in our favor to have her seen as powerful. It will make those who wish to challenge her status think twice." I say.

"I am looking forward to seeing how she does. I am also thankful she already has a bonded. She would get far more offers if not." Lady Winters says.

"Even with the bond I still receive offers. Alphard said he has had people come up to him trying to strike a deal for her hand." I say shaking my head. Some people were far too desperate.

"Don't let Rabastan hear that. He has already become quite possessive." Lord Lestrange laughs.

Rabastan

We have been in school for a week, and she is due to switch to Ravenclaw tomorrow. It had been decided she would spend a week in each house starting with Slytherin. I am amazed how she already had the professors wrapped around her finger and could be seen helping first years most of the time. I still thought it was funny that while most still looked at our group with nervousness, they could no longer outright call us evil with Carina around.

We are sitting in the common room, and I grab her hand pulling her with me. She smiles and shakes her head at some of the comments but doesn't say anything until we are in my room.

"I feel like I get no time alone with you." I say taking a seat on my bed.

"The new will wear off, hopefully." She says sitting beside me.

"How are you settling, truly?" I ask. I am still worried about her.

"It is different. Part of me is still waiting for something bad to happen. I also hate being out of the loop on what is happening. There is so much I want to get done but I know I need to do this also." She says and I see the frustration in her eyes. I reach over and grab her hand.

"We can always work on the bond. I know you want to do so much more but we have time. I want our bond complete before anything breaks out. I hate the thought of you in danger without being able to know." I say honestly. I wanted to be the support she needed.

"I admit I would feel better if the bond was complete also. I just worry you won't be able to hold yourself back if you know some of the people and what they did. You can't go hurting people for something they haven't done yet."
