Saving the Blacks

Chapter 20

Orion

We get word of the treatment Carina is undergoing. The boys while upset she still wasn't home, are more concerned. I hate that she had to suffer and now my sons were too. Since the news Regulus has withdrawn from everyone but Sirius and Sirius isn't his normal hyper self. We do our best to assure them she will be ok, but I know they need to see her themselves.

We have guys night tonight and we need to see if we can find where the diary is kept and see if we can find out where the cup is. Cygnus and I have been given protection jewelry that nullifies most controlling magic. With lord Malfoy so close to Voldemort we need to be careful. My father and Carina had created a replica of the diary for us to replace the real one with. I have it in a special bag that prevents the leakage of dark magic. If the replica feels even half what the true diary feels like, I want to get this over with quickly. I have been around dark objects my whole life and even I don't want anything to do with it.

I arrive at the Malfoy manor and spot Cygnus talking to lord Rosier and lord Nott.

"Orion, I am glad you could make it." Lord Malfoy says coming over to greet me.

"How have things been?"

"Good, things are moving well. How is your family?"

"Well, the boys are typical boys and into everything." I chuckle.

"How is Carina? I bet it must be interesting to take on a child of her age." He says and I knew this was coming. We had talked about the interest shown in Carina and Bellatrix.

"She is doing well. You would never know she wasn't Sirius and Regulus's older sister by the way they follow her around. How is your son?" I didn't want him to think I was hiding her from him, but I also didn't need to tell him anymore than he already knew.

"He is well, I have him in tutoring this summer. I want him to be the best heir he can be."

The little comments continue until lord Crabb comes over and I am able to slip away. As the night wears on I keep an eye on lord Malfoy. When he mentions a prized possession in the family room, I know I need to check it out. Cygnus walks over distracting him as I slip out of the room. It isn't hard to find the room and I shake my head when I realize he has no protection on the diary. I doubt he knows what it is, and it doesn't take long to change them out. I walk back and shake my head when I hear Cygnus trying to redirect a conversation about a betrothal contract for Andromeda. He meets my eyes and I nod letting him know I have it.

We head to the Black manor for a meeting with everyone. I had given the book to Kreature to take to one of our unused homes, not wanting it to affect my family if I brought it into my house. If Regulus freaked over the letter, I can only imagine what his reaction to the diary would be. One down, four to go.

Lord Potter

I arrive at the Black manor, and I still can't get over I am in an alliance with the house of Black. I personally had no issue with dark magic, I just personally preferred light magic. I take my seat in the meeting room as lord Black comes in.

"I was able to switch the diaries out and have it in one of the unused houses." Orion says when we are all seated.

"I heard talk of lord Nott having obtained a prized possession." Cygnus says.

"It will be harder to get into the Nott manor. He is far more secretive." Lord Lestrange comments.

"Dumbledore has learned of James spending time with Sirius and Regulus. He is worried that a friendship like that can lead James down a dark path. He also mentioned attempting to speak with lord Winters." I tell the group. I had trusted Dumbledore but since all this started, I was starting to see what Carina saw. The subtle hints on how I should run my house was getting tiresome.
