[In an Undisclosed Prison Location]
Invel Yura (dressed in plain grey prison attire) sat in his cell, in deep rumination. About just how unfair life was.
Shield of Spriggan. Member of the Wide-renowned Spiggan 12. Alvarez Empire's Chief of Staff and close personal advisor to the King. 'Winter General'. All those titles used to mean something. He might have even been made Governer of Magnolia as well under the good grace of Fiore's rightful King. True, part of Lord Zeref's ultimate goal was the downfall of his brother, that woeful demon half-breed Etherius Natsu Dragneel. And true enough without first acquiring 'Fairy Heart' from the King's former consort, that would have meant the end of the King, even if that very end had been a dream pursued by Lord Zeref for many centuries.
Too many centuries.
For all the years Invel had known the King, it pained him seeing the man he admired the most striving to uphold a kingdom while forever on the brink of despair, knowing full well the source of that pain went further back than even the birth of Invel's own forefathers. So much pain, and for far too long for any mortal man to endure, all in the name of building a better world. How Invel longed to put an end to his beloved Lord's misery, and also make his dream world a reality, gladly serving whomever was worthy to succeed his master to establish and rule that world in his wake.
And yet Lord Zeref died, and Dragneel lived, despite Invel's best efforts to use that fool Fullbuster as a weapon against the Dragon Slayer. Even the master's old enemy Acnologia ultimately couldn't defeat the Fire Mage and his friends.
And time moved on. The war between the Alvarez Empire and Ishgar concluded, with the Empire conceding defeat! The surviving Spiggan 12 Members scurrying back to their homeland with their tails between their legs like dogs, all except Neinhart, and Invel himself. Here in this prison, a cage on a small island within a vast chamber, surrounded by molten lava, enchanted to surpress his ice magic, they had abandoned him. Ajeel, Yajeel, Brandish, even Dimitria and Jacob (both infamous for relentless dedication to their pursuits as much as for their brutality) had forsaken him in a cowardly bid to make a facsimile of peace with Ishgar, all because of that damned Fairy Tail guild!
And in that time incarcerated in this Hell Hole, where the world dumps its worst criminals in its own bid to forget about them, Invel found his usually cool and calculating demeanour smoulder and burn away with unrelenting rage. Rage against his former 'allies' who not only forsook him, but their one true king, everything He stood for, everything they were as His Elite, AS WIZARDS!! And rage against the Wizard Guilds that killed His dream...
Invel swore an oath once that flame of rage had hit its peak. Should he ever find himself outside this prison, he would find a new calling and a new master. One worthy of the path his beloved King had laid before them. And together, they would build that dream world yet. And in time, Invel would have his revenge; on those 'allies' who betrayed him, on Fairy Tail, on that blue-haired strumpet, on Gray Fullbuster, and on Natsu Dragneel!!!
His ruminations came to a halt when across the chamber, he spotted a small boat, enchanted to be immune to the lava lake, heading in his direction. This was the boat the prison guards would use to deliver Invel his daily meals since his incarceration (and not much else). But it wasn't the guards on the boat!? As it slowly came into focus, Invel could just make out the smug smirk of Neinhart among the group. The rest of the company wore black robes and garish Masks that covered their faces completely, and some of their robes were clearly splattered with blood!
And for the first time since his incarceration, Invel Yura smiled.
[Meanwhile, near a sheer cliff face not far from Hargeon Town Port, Magnolia, Fiore]
Happy (the winged-anthropomorphic blue cat-like Exceed with a green back-pack) flew back to the peak of the cliff where his companions waited with baited breath.
He had travelled as far out to the horizon for as long as he could, carrying Wendy Marvell (currently their party's only Dragon Slayer) in his paws, hoping her enhanced senses would be sufficient to locate their missing friends. Wendy, an indigo-pig-tailed 14-year-old Sky Dragon Slayer (Actually about 20-21-years-old, give or take 400 years), was more than eager to help in the search for her friends.
And so Happy alternated carrying Wendy throughout that day, between himself and the elegant white female Exceed Charle (Carla). Wendy's partner and Happy's friend and (not so) secret crush. And their friends Erza Scarlet, Gray Fullbuster and Juvia Lockser (because she had insisted on going with her 'Beloved Gray-sama' (clinging to him with a death-grip at every possible opportunity)), had all done their part searching. But to no avail.
How could a routine job protecting merchant ships going out of Hargeon Town from a Sea Monster have gone so horribly wrong!? After Fairy Tail and so many other guilds pulled together to defeat the Alvarez Empire AND take down Acnologia once and for all only 5 months ago. How did they let THIS happen? Yes they were on a boat meant as a decoy to lure the creature out, and so largely vulnerable out at sea (Natsu and Wendy in particular with their ever-present motion-sickness). But still..
When the creature finally reared its head from the depths, Happy should have kept his head in the game. He should never have let Natsu go. He should never have lost sight of Lushee.
This was all his fault.
"THERE!!!" Wendy cried suddenly. Happy hovered, looking in the direction she pointed. Though he couldn't see any people on the vessel appearing over the horizon, he knew he could trust her judgement. "We'll meet up with the others and tell them to wait at the Port. Where we all agreed to meet-up if we got separated!", "Aye!" Happy said simply as he continued in the direction of the cliff. Hoping now more than ever that Wendy's usually astute intuition was right. Something felt off, though Happy couldn't quite explain it, concerning the ship soon approaching the shores of their land. Not quite foreboding in itself, so much as a vessel carrying those who would bring their own brand of trouble to their already chaotic town. A vessel in (what Happy himself could now see) the curious shape of a lion with a coat of arms emblazoned on its sail, in the shape of a skull-and-crossbones wearing a Straw Hat!!
