The morning could only be described as a time of warmth and ease. Often the lads and I would visit the Northmen settlement. The boys had been raised surrounded by my culture and my kin. They faced a fast paced childhood where they would be educated in all manners of the McCarthy line and English history. This is why I always made it a priority that they travel with me here, to learn their mothers side. I will not allow the men at court to dismiss it from them. They are both half me and her, and it will be my life's work that they never forget it.

As we strolled down the dirt path paved for the busy farmhands at work I couldn't help the sudden pride that swelled in me of this being my wife's people. They were hard working, kind, and open minded. Some regarded me and the boys with wide eyes and suspicious glare but that didn't amount to the smiles of those who passed by or the folks that offered samples of their crops or the children who eagerly circled the boys in the hope to play.

It saddened me that Saxon children couldn't be more like this. But they were not to blame, they follow the actions of their parents.

"Da! Da!"

I raise my eyebrows in amusement as I bend down to the boys level who eagerly run to my chest.

With excitement in their eyes do they babble their words that only Gyda and I had come to decipher.
After they are finished do I chuckle softly as I reply back.

"I'm happy that you've made a new friend lads but no you cannot go with her on the ship."

They protest with crossed brows and arms.
They're mournful as they question why.

"Because that little girl is going on the ship with her family to go back to their homeland. Do you really want to leave your mum and da here by ourselves?"

I played on their little hearts and of course they followed it as they shake their heads no and cuddled into my arms as they waved to the little girl who's mother led her to the docks. I join in with the boys and fare her well.

"I promise you lads that one day we will go on a ship just like that to visit your mothers homelands. I just want you to be a little more grown up before such a journey."

"Why da?"

"Cause I'm betting you boys inherited your mums sea sickness."

They squeal in laughter as I swing my arms under their knees and hold them up on my arms. Standing I continue on walking as they cheered themselves on, babbling some words about me being their horse.

As I continue on this feeling of thundering vibrations traveled from the dirt to my boots. The boys continue on babbling as I stop walking. This eerie feeling prickled up my spine as I looked down the path we walked and saw villagers standing and stopping one by one to watch something coming towards them.
