The branches of passing trees slash at my dress. The fresh dew that lay upon the long grass clings it's watery coat to my hem. I couldn't care, only one thought flowed through my head. My father was going to kill Him.

In my line of sight, I see father by the river. He's placed him on the dirt. I will myself to a near by boulder. Watching on, I see father talking to him. He's crying. They both are.

He places the axe to his neck. He allows it to linger there for a second. My breath catches in my throat when he finally moves again.

He places the axe next to his sons small body. After a few mournful moments Ragnar stands and walks away. Trying his hardest not to give in the cries of the wailing boy he leaves behind.

I wait a few seconds more to make sure that he is far before I approach my screeching brother. As soon as his feared eyes look to me he quiets his cries to soft whimpers. I pick up his cold body and cuddle him close to my chest.

My head snaps to the side with the sound of tussling through the grass. It's Aslaug. Her eyes wander from the axe on the ground to the bundle in my arms. She approaches slowly with shaken hands. I turn slightly to show him to her, that he was unharmed.

She lets out a breath of relief as she offers to take him. I smile as I pass his little body to his mothers warm arms. She lightly kissed his head as her tears fall. She then looks to me with a look full of gratitude. She mouths the words thank you.

I only nod. With that Aslaug and I walk back to return him to his bed with his brothers, where he belonged—Not with the gods but with his family.

"You leave so soon." It was hard to hide my disappointment. She turns away from her ship and smiles warmly to me.

"Miss me have you?" She replies. I chuckle, giving her the satisfaction. But it was true. For the last week I have stuck close to her. Missing my mothers love. We use to have such a strong bond. It was weakened now but I hoped that with her new alliance with father I could help to restore it.
