Prolog: Santa Carla.

Santa Carla has always been a popular town to the outside world. It had its good qualities: amazing beaches with some even more amazing surfing spots, a wide variety of stores for shopping, an amusement park with different rides and attractions for all ages. It also held a variety of different people with styles ranging from hippies to punk rocks to those who were dressing for the future. Tourist come here to experience a world that seemed like wonderland from the location to the food to the people who live there. They experience the world and then they go home never realizing how close they were to seeing the ugly side of this wonderland that is Santa Carla. Outsiders travel here, see this wonderland like world and think this is the perfect place to live. Every year more people travel here to live not seeing the dark side of this town. They can't see past the bright lights, fatty food and crashing waves.

The locals are the only ones who sees the truth. They see the missing posters, the gang members walking around the area, the drugs that are passed out like candy. They recognize the unspoken rules that make up the town and disappear into their homes once it starts to get dark. Once it gets dark the gang members and criminals come out.

The two groups that the locals fear the most are the Surf Nazis and the Lost Boys.

The Surf Nazis are a crude group who claimed they owned the ocean and the beach because they could surf the waves. Those males who joined the group were cruel to everyone even the females who were part of the gang. They were the gang who were involved in drugs, rape, theft, violence and murder. They were always in a group and that's how they attacked everyone around them. It was better to avoid them as much as possible.

The Lost Boys were an exclusive group that consisted of only six members. They claimed the boardwalk as their territory. There were rumors about them but never enough evidence to prove. Most locals knew that at least some of the murders could be laid at their feet. All who see them knew better than getting the attention of the four adult males of the group. Those who are foolish enough to mess with the group disappear.

Santa Carla also has the most homeless population in the area. Young adults who are not ready to grow up and runaway teens/kids come here for its wonderland experience. They ignore the danger of Santa Carla. For them, the dangers are better than returning to the outside world. The police see the growing numbers however, no matter what they do, more homeless people and runaways come every day.

The police often joke about how there are more runaways than rats who scurry around the streets of Santa Carla. This led to the police calling all the runaway teens/kids the name street rats. This story is about one of the street rats by the name of Maya. This story is about how she came to Santa Carla and how she became a member of the gang known as The Lost Boys.
