Chapter 6

The six explorers had just arrived back at the warehouse to find the two girls fast asleep in their bed.

Kyle scoffed. He had a real issue with Maya thinking she was so great. He had been planning to ask her to join him when he went to join the Surf Nazis. Now he was not too sure she would be the one to go with him. Kyle turned his eyes to Tara. Tara was standing in front of a mirror and looking at her jacket. Tara was beautiful in her own way. She would be a better fit for the Surf Nazis than Maya.

Tara picked at one of the patches frowning. Her eyes caught his in the mirror. "I am going to have to cut some of these patches off. Do you know where the scissors are?"

Kyle shook his head. Tara rolled her eyes before turning back to the mirror for one last glance before joining Matthew and Christian. The others had started unloading their stash from the cave. Matthew, Christian and Tara started smoking the Joints they found while Jamie and Mike started trying to do stunts with the Skateboard. Matthew handed Tara his pocketknife. She took off the jacket and started removing patches from the jacket and placing it beside her bed. She would toss it in the garbage on her way out tonight.

Matthew pulled the bottle of wine out of the bag and held it up to the light trying to identify it. He took a paper cup and poured some of the wine into the cup. He almost dropped the bottle of wine once he looked at it closer. Kyle rushed over and snatched the bottle from him. "What the hell is your problem? You almost smashed it."

Matthew shook his head. "I think it's blood!!"

The others stopped and stared at Matthew like he had lost his mind. Kyle laughed. "I think the weed is getting to you."

Matthew shook his head. "No, it is not. Look Kyle."

Kyle grabbed the cup and looked at it closer. It was dark red like blood and, when he leaned closer to smell it, it smelled like blood. He jerked his head back. What sick freaks filled a wine bottle with blood?

Kyle took the bottle and cup over to the garbage to dump it when his eyes fell on Maya. It would be the perfect revenge for Miss. Goody two shoes. He poured more of the blood into the cup before kneeling beside Maya.

"Wake up Maya. You must try this. It is amazing" He exclaimed.

Matthew stood up "What are you doing man?"

"Shut up." Kyle hissed. Kyle reached down and shook Maya.

"Wake up girl. You must try this wine. We all have had it and it is amazing." Kyle insisted.

Maya groaned and rubbed her eyes. "What time is it?"

Kyle laughed. "It's going on 6 pm. Time for you two to wake up."

Maya slowly sat up rubbing her eyes. "Why did you wake me up?"

Kyle laughed. "You cannot sleep all day. You two will be up all night if you do not wake up. You must try this. It is the most amazing wine I have ever tasted."

Kyle shoved the paper cup into her hands.

Maya glanced at it before looking at the others. "Have ya'll had any of this? Where did you even get it?"

Kyle smirked. "We found a cave that looks like a hideout and found it there. It is amazing. You must try it. We all have tried it and it is amazing."

Maya frowned before looking at the others. "You all have had some?"

Tara snickered "Yeah. It is amazing. You should have some."

Maya glanced at the wine. "I don't know. We have no idea what is in this. It could be drugged with something."

Kyle rolled his eyes. "Don't be such a baby. We have all had it. Don't be a chicken. Unless you are scared."

Maya's eyes jerked up to Kyle's. "I am no chicken. I am just not sure how comfortable I am about drinking a mysterious wine you found in a cave hideout from a group we do not know about."

Maya turned her eyes to Matthew. "Did you try this? Is it safe?"

Matthew swallowed and glanced at Kyle who was glaring at him. Matthew turned his eyes back to Maya and smiled weakly. "It is safe. We all tried it."

Maya glanced down and took a breath. She slowly lifted the cup to her mouth and took a small sip. She did not see the looks on the other kids faces ranging from disgust to amusement.

Maya glanced at it while licking her lips. Kyle was right. This was nothing like the wine she had ever tasted. It was the best thing she had ever tasted. She needed more. She lifted it to her lips and started drinking another gulp full. Maya was not sure how much she had drunk before the cup was yanked out of her hands.

Maya gasped and reached out for the cup only for Matthew to pull it away. "Maya, you have to stop. It is blood. You are drinking blood."

Maya stared at Matthew in confusion. She started swaying and reached up gripping her head. "My head"

Matthew dropped the cup as Maya fell backward onto her bed. She started breathing hard and her eyes felt heavy. Slowly her eyes closed, and she let the darkness consume her.

Matthew kneeled by Maya and shook her shoulder. "Maya. Maya, wake up."

Mathew pulled the flashlight out of his pocket and used it to check Maya's eyes. He checked to see if she still had a heartbeat and was breathing.

Matthew turned to Kyle. "She is out cold. What is in that stuff besides the blood?"

Kyle shook his head. "No idea man."

The kids glanced at each other in confusion. No one could understand what happened.

Jamie glanced between the other kids. "What do we do now?"

Kyle scoffed and dropped on his bed. "We wait and see what happens."

Matthew scoffed "And if she starts having bad side effects?"

Kyle smirked and laid down with his hands behind his head. "It is Santa Carla. Anyone who lives here knows they are walking a fine line between death and life. It looks like it is time for sweet little Maya to walk that tight rope between life and death. She will either survive or she will be one more person to die in Murder Capital of the World."
