Chapter Seven

Maya groaned as her head pounded. Itfelt like elephants had stomped all over her head while dancing to the tangowith steel toed shoes on. She slowly sat up and rubbed her head.

"Maya, your awake" Susan called out.

Maya glanced at her in confusion."What time is it?"

"It's almost 9:30. The sun's gonedown. What's wrong?" Susan said.

Maya opened her eyes and glancedaround. "Massive headache. Lights in here are not helping."

Susan was sitting by her and theothers were all crowded around a metal barrel that had a fire going on insideit. She slowly stood up and struggled to stay standing. Susan grabbed her armtill the older girl was able to get her balance. Maya smiled and nodded at thegirl.

Matthew glanced up and saw the twogirls. "Maya, your awake."

Maya stared at the boy. His face was pale, and he looked shaken.

Maya nodded her head. "Yeah, I'm ok. Ihave a massive headache and my eyes are killing me. What happened? I can'tremember anything."

Matthew and Kyle glanced at each otherin shock. Matthew slowly rubbed the back of his head. "Well.... you see. Thething is you drank some wine we found, and it made you pass out."

Maya glanced between the two. "And?"

Kyle shrugged. "That's it."

Tara laughed meanly. "Just tell herthe truth. Kyle found a wine bottle filled with blood and who knows what else.He convinced you to drink it and Matthew was a chicken. He told you it was safeeven though he knew it was blood and no one else tried it. Just you. You passedout after you drank it. We were waiting to see if you woke up or if you died.If you had died, we would have had to find a place to dump your body."

Matthew glared at the girl.

Maya snarled. "YOU CONVINCED ME TODRINK BLOOD???" She snarled at Kyle.

She turned quickly to face Matthew."AND YOU WENT ALONG WITH IT??"

Kyle took a gulp and stepped back fromthe angry girl. "Come on Maya. It's not that bad."

Maya turned and swung her hand so hardshe knocked Kyle down. "YOU TWO ARE MONSTERS AND ONE DAY YOU WILL GET WHAT'SCOMING TO YOU!!!"

Maya turned to Susan. "Get your stuff. We are going now."

Tara snickered from where she wassitting. It was worth it to set the girl on the boys. She slowly stood up andwalked over to the girl. "Do you like my new jacket?"

Maya turned toward the girl andstared. She stared at the leather jacket with the patches. She had seen thatjacket from somewhere, but she could not remember where she had seen it. Herhead was pounding and felt like it was filled with cotton. It was hard to thinkproperly.

Tara took Maya's staring as jealously."It's very vintage. I had to remove some of the patches and put some otherpatches on. Some of them were so vulgar."

Maya groaned and rubbed her head. Itwas so loud in here. She wiped the sweat off her forehead and turned to glanceat Susan.

"Hurry up. I need some air. It'sstuffy in here."

Susan grabbed her bag and went tostand by Maya. Matthew frowned. "Where are you two going?"

Susan lifted her chin and said, "I'mgoing home."

Kyle frowned. "What? Why would you do that? This is your home now."

Susan shook her head. "I want to gohome."

Kyle started to say something, butMaya stopped him. "It's her decision. Not yours. Let it go Kyle."

Matthew shook his head at the look offury on Kyle's face. He stepped up and ruffled Susan's hair. "Good luck kid. Ihope it works out for you."

Tara and the others besides Kyle saidgoodbye. As Susan walked out the door Maya glanced back to see Kyle glaring atthe two girls. Kyle had a bad attitude when things didn't go his way. Maya hada feeling she was going to be in a fight when she got back to the hideout.

Susan grabbed Maya's hand as theywalked through the different alleyways to get to the police station. "Maya, areyou ok?"

Maya forced a smile on her face."Yeah. I will be fine. Are you excited to go home?"

Susan smiled. "A little bit. Thebabies were not born yet. I'm kind of nervous to see mom though."

Maya smiled kindly at the kid."Everything will be fine."

Maya and Susan stopped in an alley wayfacing the police station.

Maya leaned down and fixed Susan'sshirt. "Do you remember what you're supposed to say?"

Susan nodded her head looking down atthe ground. Maya reached out and lifted the girl's head until she was lookingMaya in the eyes. "Do you remember what you're not supposed to say?"

Susan frowned and nodded again.  "Don't tell them where we stayed or who wasin the group."

Maya nodded her head. She gave Susan ahug and whispered in her ear. "Don't look back. No matter what you feel. Don'tlook back."

Maya pulled away and ran her hand downthe girl's face for a moment before turning Susan toward the police station andgiving her a shove forward. Susan took three steps and stopped. Maya frowned."Don't look back kid."

Susan gulped but continued walkingacross the street and into the police station. Maya really hoped to never seeSusan here ever again. Hopefully the police would have her on a bus home firstthing tomorrow.

Maya turned and started walking backtoward the boardwalk. Pain suddenly exploded everywhere. It felt like everycell in her body was exploding and shrinking at the same time. Her bonesthrobbed and her head started pounding even worse than before.

Maya fell to the ground and curled upinto a ball. This pain was worse than anything she could imagine. Death wouldhave been preferable. She was in so much pain she didn't hear the footstepscoming toward her.

"Well, what do I have here? A damselin destress. What is wrong? Not feeling so good. Do not worry. I'll take goodcare of you just like you will take good care of me."

Maya felt the man kneel down and grabher arm pulling it over his shoulder. He shifted her to where her face waspressed into his neck as he started to carry her further in the dark. Mayasniffed and smelt the most heavenly smell ever. Maya's throat was burning, andshe licked her lips at the smell. The man stumbled and Maya's face slammed intohis neck. The back of her earing scratched the man on the neck making himbleed.

As the man cursed Maya lost control. She felt her face shift and, before the man realized what was going on, Mayabit straight onto his neck right at the vein. The man yelled out as he felt thegirl bite him and tried to push her away. Maya was too lost in the taste of theblood to realize what she was doing or that her hands had changed into claws. The girl grabbed his arms and held tight. The struggle led to the man fallingbackward with Maya holding on tightly and falling with him.

"Please.... Stop.... I... I'm.... begging... you..." Theman begged.

Maya was too lost in feeding to hearhis pleas or to realize that she was being watched by four people above her.

The blood eventually slowed down, andMaya let go of the man. She glanced down at what used to be a 30-year-old man.He now looked like a shriveled-up mummy.

Maya's eyes suddenly widened as thesituation suddenly hit her. She had just killed a man. She had just killed aman by drinking his blood. Her shirt and jeans had drops of blood on it. Whathad she done and what would she do now?

Whoosh

Maya jerked around to stare at fourpeople who stood behind her. Maya's eyes widened in shock when she recognizedwho was behind her.  They were the lastpeople she expected to see tonight.
