We all hear the door open and Parker switches on the lights."SUPRISE!" The boys, me, and almost the whole school scream in unison.
Chase doesn't even look surprised or scared he just stands at the door with a slight smile on his face. There isn't getting anywhere with him. He walks over to us and thanks us.
Parker got him to come to the beach house because he told Chase that he left something important the last time they were here and out of the depths of Chase's heart, he came to pick it up for him.
The music starts and shakes the whole house. I told Aaron to come but I guess he isn't the party type and that's why he was by himself at the one we met.
I walk over to beer pong and start to play with Levi against two other boys. I make a few shots but the boys are good so after the 5th drink, I feel drunk and nauseous so I give up while Levi runs to go vomit outside in the sand.
I go outside and see Chase sitting in the sand holding an ice pack to his fist. "You got into a fight on your birthday?" I sit next to him.
"It was my fault, I don't do well with drinks" he looks down.
"What do you mean" I put a piece of gum in my mouth because I know my breath must reek.
"Nothing" he smiles towards me.
"Your lip is bleeding, let's go" I get up and hold a hand for him.
"You should see the other guy" he laughs and takes my hand to get up.
We go upstairs to the room he uses while he stays here and it looks similar to his room but without sports things and his actual personality. Blue and black are obviously his favorite colors. I take off my shoes and set them by the door.
He takes a seat on the bed and I go to the bathroom to wet a washcloth with warm water. I spit out my gum when it starts to quickly lose its taste. When I come out he's in sweatpants and putting on his shirt. I stop myself from looking at his body and clear my throat.
He takes a seat on the bed again. I crouch down in front of him and before I wipe his mouth, I remember to give him his gift.
"Parker told me you don't really like gifts but I kind of had to" I pull out the small box.
"Oh geez," he sighs.
"Don't worry, it isn't much" I hand it to him.
"Thanks," he says sarcastically.
He puts down the ice pack and opens the gift pretty quickly. I stare at his face to see his reaction and it's pretty blank so I kind of start to panic.
"Is it too much or is it not good enough, I knew I should've gone with the ring, you love rings. I can take it back-" I rant.
"It's nice" is all he says before holding up the hockey stick necklace engraved with the words 'look at this smile' on it with his initials on the tip of it. "I love it, thank you" he smiles with his dimples and it warms my heart. Butterflies start to swirl once he looks up at me.
"Uh yea, no problem" I break eye contact and pick up the washcloth while he puts on the necklace.
I start to wipe the side of his mouth that has dried blood slowly. He winces a little.
"Sorry," I tell him. He smiles warmly. There are those butterflies again.
I finish wiping the blood off his face and I see him look down at something I hope it isn't what I think it is. I do the same thing though, I look down at his pink lips as he licks them getting rid of any leftover blood.
