26- Conflict

I'm finally back at school and I go straight to my first like usual. I take a seat and greet Ms. Louis and also thank her for being a good chaperone. I go to my seat and Parker walks in right before the bell rings. He takes a seat breathing heavily.

"Why are you breathing so hard?" I turn to him.

"I ran to get here on time so I won't get suspended with all the tardies I have because I want to go to your game tomorrow," he says.

"Awww," I say.

"Shut up," he opens his bookbag.

Class starts after a few minutes and I didn't miss much thankfully. The day went by pretty fast after the first period.

I open my locker and feel a tap on my shoulder. I turn around and see Nick standing there smiling.

"Had fun?" he says.

"Yea I did, you should've come," I close my locker.

"I know," he sighs.

"What did you do?" we begin to walk to the cafeteria.

"Nothing, literally nothing. I don't know why I went," he facepalms himself.

I laugh a little and say goodbye once we reach the cafeteria. I enter and see the boys already sitting down. I go take a seat with them and put my bag down.

"Good morning," I say happily to them.

"Someone is in a good mood," Chase says.

"Yea I am," I take out the apple I brought for lunch.

"Is that all you're having?" he asks.

"I'm not that hungry 'cause I had breakfast so yea," I bite into it.

A girl with braids walks over to our table and she looks oddly familiar. She goes to Levi and kisses him. I sit there stunned. They smile at each other and she looks at us and waves. We wave back and she smiles warmly and leaves.

"What was that?" I laugh at Levi.

"My somewhat girlfriend but I haven't made it official yet," he eats his fries.

"She's pretty," I look back at the girl.

"I know right," Levi smiles.

The bell rings and we all get up. I leave the Cafeteria with Chase and we make our way to our class. We walk into class and take a seat where we usually do. Ava then walks in and sits next to Chase.

I don't mind or care what she does because I know how Chase feels about her. I open my Math book and write down the warm-up. Once class starts I feel a few stares from Ava but I ignore them.

When class is about to end, I hear a phone ding, and then Ava gasps. The bell rings and we all get up to leave but when I look behind me, Ava looks like she wants to kill me. I don't know what she found out but who cares?

Chase and I walk to science and take a seat at the back of the class. I grab two textbooks and hand one to Chase. He smiles at me and opens it. I look at him and still see the necklace.

"So you're not gonna take that off?" I ask.

"Nope," he doesn't even look up.

As class starts, I feel something in my nose and try to rub it out but nothing happens. It eventually goes away and I start the assignment. I use the microscope to look at the first slide and I write down one of the answer choices on the paper.

I give the microscope to Chase and he looks through it. My phone dings and I pull it out of my pocket to read an email. Finally, the doctor sent news.

Good afternoon, Kayla Tyler, I regret to inform you that your condition has resurfaced to Acute-

I finish reading the email and I feel, I don't even fucking know how I feel because the stupid world is against me and every time shit gets good it gets 100x worse.

My vision blurs from the tears building up and I feel a panic attack coming on. I look down and see a drop of something red on my desk. Then another and another, I begin to taste the iron in my mouth. I put my finger under my nose and feel a stream of blood coming out. I stumble to get up with my hand on my chin.

"Here it is-" Chase looks up at me. "Are you okay?" he gets up.

"I'm fine," I put up my other hand to stop him from coming towards me.

I rush out of the room quickly and run to the bathroom. I go over to the sink and turn on the water. I feel like I'm gonna pass out. I use the water to wash the blood off my face and fall to the floor. I put my head on my knees and start to freak out. I don't think I'm gonna survive it this time. I'm gonna die, aren't I? This is it.

Before I know it, tears start to rush down my face and I feel like I'm choking. I hold my chest trying to breathe but I can't seem to get a good breath of air. I cry hysterically. The bathroom door opens but at this point I don't care who it is. I'm gonna die anyway. I feel someone sit next to me and put their arm around my shoulder.

"Please tell me what's wrong," Chase's voice whispers.

"I don't know," I calm down a bit.

We sit there for a while and I finally get myself together and get up from the floor. Chase stands behind me while I wash any leftover blood on my face. We both walk out of the bathroom on our way to the office because all I wanna do right now is go hug my dad.

"Oh hey, guys," Ava walks up to us.

"Not right now," Chase says.

"Why not? Was it a perfect time to sleep with me the same night you asked her to be your girlfriend?" Ava says.

I stop myself from walking and look at Ava and then at Chase. He's already looking at me for a reaction.

"Ok Kayla, I swear it wasn't on purpose. I wasn't even planning on asking you and I didn't even want to sleep with her. It was just in the moment." Chase begins.

"Just get off of me," I start to back away from him.

"Kayla please," he starts walking toward me and grabs my hand.

"Get the fuck off of me!" I yell at him and just walk away. I'm done with him and everything.

I walk into the office and sign out. I walk out of the school and sit in my car. I stare at my steering wheel and cry once again.

I just wanna go home.
